A week ago, Sávio, Omar Marmoush and Nico González were Manchester City teammates. By Saturday, they could be on opposite sides. Only Sávio is a confirmed new signing at the time of writing, however, and the larger football question is whether Tottenham's late attacking reinforcements can repair the problems exposed in a 3-0 opening defeat at Brentford.
Newcastle offer an immediate stress test: Matthias Jaissle's side pressed Liverpool aggressively, attacked quickly after turnovers and twice led before drawing 2-2.

This is a slight preference, not a verdict. Tottenham sit only 11 percentage points above Newcastle, while the draw is six points behind the away win. Home advantage makes Tottenham the single most likely outcome, but the market is describing a genuinely competitive game.
Tottenham have narrow favoritism due to home advantage and because their attacking ceiling is changing quickly. Sávio is confirmed and gives Roberto De Zerbi a natural one-on-one threat from the right. Marmoush would add pace and direct running if his proposed move is completed and registered in time. Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro are also working back toward availability.
But the freshest evidence does not support a wide gap. Tottenham failed to register a first-half shot on target in their 3-0 defeat, while Newcastle's 2-2 draw with Liverpool showed how quickly Jaissle's press can turn pressure into chances. William Osula, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga gave Liverpool repeated problems.
That is the favorite's clearest vulnerability. De Zerbi asks his teams to build through pressure, and Newcastle have just shown that they can make those early passes hurried and dangerous. Tottenham's new attackers may also have had too little time to develop combinations.
Tottenham remain the marginal selection because they are at home and may add considerably more attacking quality before kickoff. Still, 43% feels appropriately cautious. Newcastle have a credible route to winning, not merely to surviving for a draw, especially with the addition of Nico González to add composure and experience alongside Lewis Miley in the double pivot.

The market gives Tottenham an edge without separating them decisively from Newcastle. The away win sits six points above the draw, which is telling: traders see Newcastle's performance and recent success in this matchup as a genuine route to victory, not merely evidence that they can frustrate Tottenham.

Sávio has completed his move from Manchester City and is eligible to play. His best route into De Zerbi's 4-2-3-1 is on the right, where he can isolate a fullback and cut onto his left foot. Tottenham lacked that repeated one-on-one threat at Brentford. He has a strong case to start against Newcastle, although his role in Wednesday's League Cup tie with Charlton should provide a better guide.
Marmoush is a different case. Tottenham have agreed a loan with an obligation to buy, but he was due to undergo a medical at the time of writing. Until the move and registration are complete, he cannot be treated as available. Even if cleared, a place on the bench may be more realistic after minimal training time with De Zerbi.
De Zerbi used a Tonali-Bergvall double pivot at Brentford, with Conor Gallagher as the No. 10 and Mikey Moore and Mathys Tel either side of Richarlison. James Maddison's shoulder injury adds another creative concern, while Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski have been working back from longer-term problems.
Van de Ven and Porro missed the opener but have returned to group work and are targeting involvement. Van de Ven supplies recovery speed behind the build-up; Porro gives the right side a more natural passing and overlapping outlet. Pape Matar Sarr's minor hamstring issue is another decision for De Zerbi.
Newcastle team news
Newcastle's 4-2-3-1 against Liverpool looked more settled than its age profile suggested. Teenager Sean Steur partnered 20-year-old Lewis Miley in midfield, with Wissa behind Osula and Elanga and Harvey Barnes providing the width. Miley was impressive, Steur held his own and Aladji Bamba made his debut from the bench.
González could be next, but his £52 million move from Manchester City had not been completed at the time of writing. If registered, he would give Jaissle a more experienced controller at the base of midfield.
Dan Burn, Tino Liveramento and Joelinton missed the Liverpool game and are unlikely to return for this game.
Osula is also set to be out for this game, raising the question of how Newcastle fill the No.10 and No.9 roles Jaissle likes to see. Wissa could move forward, allowing the likes of Jacob Ramsey or Joe Willock to play in behind. While Nick Woltemade is an option to play No.9 or No.10. He didn't come off the bench against Liverpool.
The Magpies are still active in the transfer market, with Jaissle reportedly looking for another attacking player who could be an option to feature.

Can Tottenham play through Newcastle's pressure?
This is the central matchup. Brentford denied Tottenham a first-half shot on target. Newcastle then harried Liverpool into rushed decisions, with Elanga's goal beginning in the visitors' pressure and transition play.
De Zerbi will still ask Tottenham to build. Van de Ven can carry through the first line, Porro can open a cleaner route down the right and Sávio can punish Newcastle if their pressure leaves him isolated. If those outlets are absent or undercooked, Newcastle's 32% will look entirely understandable.
Do Sávio and Marmoush unlock Tottenham immediately?
Sávio can stretch the pitch on the right and create room inside for Gallagher or a forward dropping off. That matters against a narrow, aggressive press.
Marmoush would add runs beyond the last line. But there is a difference between being registered and being ready to start. Confirmed lineup news should matter more than the transfer agreement itself.
How will Tonali perform against his former club?
Tottenham paid Newcastle a package worth up to £100 million for Tonali, and his first home league appearance comes against the side he left. Tottenham need him to receive under pressure, set the pace and stop loose central passes becoming Newcastle attacks.
Newcastle have spent reported packages of roughly £109 million on Steur, Bamba and González. It is tempting to call that three midfielders for the price of one, but the comparison remains premature.
Miley and Steur's displays against Liverpool were encouraging evidence that Newcastle may have rebuilt more quickly than expected, while the addition of González brings in a player Pep Guardiola once called 'mini Rodri'.
The midfield battle could be key, and give an early sign of who had the more successful transfer window.
Can Newcastle's transition threat expose Tottenham's new defense?
Tottenham's back four at Brentford contained four summer arrivals or players in unfamiliar roles. That is dangerous against the pace and acceleration of Newcastle's forward players. The Magpies do not need long spells of possession to create the game they want.
Van de Ven's return would make a material difference. Without his recovery pace, Tottenham may have to protect the space behind their defense more conservatively.

Newcastle's selection against West Bromwich Albion should offer similar clues.
Transfer completion is the other major trigger. A Tottenham XI containing Sávio, Marmoush, Van de Ven and Porro would look very different from the side beaten at Brentford. González beside one of Newcastle's young midfielders would offer more control than the team that relied on relentless tempo against Liverpool.
