Newcastle United vs Bournemouth odds

Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Tottenham offered the first persuasive glimpse of Matthias Jaissle’s rebuild. Nico González impressed on his debut, Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored, and the Magpies have taken four points from two tough assignments.

Bournemouth have only one point, but that undersells two competitive performances. They led Manchester City before losing late and were seconds from beating Everton.

This is an unusually live matchup for a game with a home favorite. Both sides want to press and both can attack quickly after turnovers.

Newcastle are the likeliest winner, but this is much closer than a routine home-favorite matchup. Four points against Liverpool and Tottenham represent a strong start. The second half at Tottenham showed what Jaissle’s team can become: aggressive without the ball and quick to attack through González, Amar Dedić and Elanga on the right.

The midfield is the source of both promise and uncertainty. Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali have gone, Joelinton is injured, and González had spent only a few days with his new teammates before starting alongside Lewis Miley. His passing range immediately improved Newcastle. One excellent debut does not make a new unit settled.

Bournemouth are equipped to test it. Marco Rose has retained the 4–2–3–1 and high-intensity principles that took the club to sixth last season. Alex Scott and Lewis Cook can press Newcastle’s central pair, while Marcus Tavernier, Justin Kluivert and Rayan give Evanilson several fast routes into the final third.

Their opening results deserve more respect than the single point suggests. Bournemouth led Manchester City through Tavernier before conceding twice late, then controlled long stretches against Everton and went ahead through Scott. A stoppage-time equalizer denied them again.

Newcastle’s edge is their greater cutting edge once a press is broken. Wissa and Elanga can punish an exposed defensive line, as Tottenham discovered after halftime.

The addition of Matthias Fernandez-Pardo adds more pace and threat to the attack.

Still, Bournemouth’s 31% is credible. Tottenham created enough before halftime to show that Newcastle can be vulnerable, and the visitors have avoided defeat in the last five league meetings between these teams.

Newcastle deserve narrow favoritism because of their home advantage, stronger start and greater finishing threat. The risk is that they now come up against a side who might sit with a low block, as opposed to opening games where they were able to counter.

Premier League 26/27 predictions:

Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth odds

  • Newcastle United win — 44%
  • Draw — 26%
  • AFC Bournemouth win — 31%

The 13-point gap between Newcastle and Bournemouth describes a favorite, but not a comfortable one. Newcastle’s early results and attacking depth give them the edge; Bournemouth’s performances and tactical fit keep the away win firmly in play.

It is notable that Bournemouth are priced above the draw. The more believable alternative to a Newcastle win is not necessarily a cautious stalemate. It is Bournemouth breaking pressure, attacking the space Newcastle leave and turning the game into a transition contest.

Newcastle United team news

Jaissle used a variation on a 4–2–3–1 at Tottenham, with González and Miley behind Joe Willock. Elanga and Harvey Barnes supported Wissa, who often dropped back as a second No. 10 alongside Willock.

Dedić and Lewis Hall operated at fullback providing overlapping threat on the wings.. That shape should continue after a strong start to the season.

González will surely keep his place. His diagonal pass released Dedić in the move for Elanga’s opener, while his carrying gives Newcastle something different after the departures of Guimarães and Tonali. Miley offers calm distribution beside him.

Will Osula, Joelinton, Tino Livramento and Dan Burn remain absent. Wissa dismissed concerns about an injury after scoring and should start through the middle.

Newcastle have also moved for Matias Fernandez-Pardo, a 21-year-old forward who can play wide or centrally. A bench role may be more plausible, but Jaissle has shown he is unafraid of throwing young talent or new signings straight into the side.

Wissa is likely the sure starter. He started as the No. 10 against Liverpool, and Jaissle effectively dispatched two No. 10s at Tottenham – Wissa alongside Willock. His skill in connecting play could be utilised here again, meaning Fernandez-Pardo is an option to start ahead of him to provide the pace at No.9 lacking in Osula's absence.

Willock started against Tottenham as the other No. 10, and scored from the bench against Liverpool, while Ramsey came on to play in that position against Spurs. In this case, Wissa could start ahead of one of the pair as the No. 9.

Newcastle will know they could face a different test here if Bournemouth sit deep, and so may require creativity to unlock a low block rather than relying on the transition threat.

AFC Bournemouth team news

Rose named the same 4–2–3–1 against Manchester City and Everton. Djordje Petrović played behind Adam Smith, António Silva, James Hill and Adrien Truffert, with Cook and Scott in the double pivot. Rayan, Kluivert and Tavernier supported Evanilson.

There is little reason for major change. Scott scored against Everton and is central to Bournemouth’s ability to regain the ball and attack before opponents reset. Cook provides balance, while Kluivert can move close to Evanilson or drop into midfield.

Tavernier scored at Manchester City, Rayan can carry the ball over distance and Evanilson’s movement creates room for both. Álvaro Rodríguez provides a more direct center-forward option from the bench.

Julián Araujo, Veljko Milosavljević and Eli Junior Kroupi are currently listed as unavailable, while Amine Adli requires a fitness update. None should force a change to the established XI, but the absences reduce Rose’s options after halftime.

The harder decision is tactical. Bournemouth’s front-foot shape gives them their best route to winning, but also leaves space for Elanga and Barnes once the first press is beaten. Rose may ask his fullbacks to advance more selectively.

Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth key matchup factors

Can Newcastle’s new midfield play through Bournemouth’s press?

González and Miley handled Tottenham well. Bournemouth will test them earlier and more deliberately, with Scott jumping from the double pivot and Kluivert closing the deepest midfielder.

Newcastle need clean first passes into the No. 10 or the wide players. If González can escape the pressure and switch play toward Dedić and Elanga, Bournemouth’s aggression may become their vulnerability.

Will Bournemouth attack Newcastle’s fullback spaces?

Jaissle wants Dedić and Hall to support attacks, particularly when Elanga moves inside. That creates useful overloads – exploited by Dedic exceptionally for three assists in his first three games – but can leave Botman and Thiaw defending wider areas after a turnover.

Rayan and Tavernier are well suited to those spaces. Bournemouth’s clearest route is to win the ball centrally and release a winger before Newcastle’s double pivot recovers.

Can Wissa and Elanga sustain Newcastle’s improved output?

Newcastle scored twice against Liverpool and Tottenham. Elanga found the net in both games, while Wissa’s finish against Spurs showed he is back to his best.

Bournemouth have conceded late in consecutive matches. Their press can protect the back line for long periods, but Newcastle’s pace and deeper bench could become decisive after the hour.

Have Bournemouth learned how to close a game?

Leading Manchester City and Everton should give Bournemouth confidence. Taking one point from those positions is the concern.

Everton’s equalizer followed confusion at a late set piece. Rose’s side have shown they can reach a winning position. They now need more composure when opponents change shape and send extra players forward.

Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth head-to-head

Bournemouth are unbeaten in the last five Premier League meetings, winning twice and drawing three. Eddie Howe never beat Bournemouth in the Premier League while managing Newcastle.

The most recent ended 0–0 in September 2025, when Newcastle managed only one shot on target.

The standout result was Bournemouth’s 4–1 away win in January 2025, inspired by a Justin Kluivert hat trick. They also won 2–0 in November 2023, with the other two games in the sequence ending 1–1 and 2–2.

Newcastle’s last league win over Bournemouth came in July 2020. The teams have changed considerably, so the record should not determine the prediction. It does show that Bournemouth’s 31% is not based on hope alone.

What could move Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth odds before kickoff?

Fernandez-Pardo is the latest addition for Newcastle, but an unchanged team would back the momentum from Tottenham. With Woltemade leaving the club for a season-long loan to Juventus, an injury to Wissa would be a hammer blow.

Bournemouth’s likely XI appears settled. Adli’s availability would add another attacking option, while any unexpected issue for Scott, Cook or Evanilson would weaken the pressing structure that gives the visitors their clearest winning route.
