Liverpool vs Fulham Prediction, Odds and Lineups

Liverpool enter Matchweek 4 unbeaten after Alexander Isak scored twice in a 2–0 victory over Ipswich Town. Fulham have lost their opening three league matches under Álvaro Arbeloa, but their attacking display against Crystal Palace showed why Andoni Iraola’s team cannot approach this as a routine assignment.

Liverpool vs Fulham Prediction
Liverpool’s 69% probability is supported by their unbeaten start, superior attacking depth and encouraging response against Ipswich. Iraola’s team opened the season with consecutive 2–2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest before Isak’s early double secured their first league victory.
Isak has scored three goals across his last two appearances. His movement and finishing have been complemented by Cody Gakpo, who created Liverpool’s equalizer against Forest before assisting both goals against Ipswich. That developing partnership gives Liverpool a reliable route through Fulham’s defense.
Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai provide additional creativity from midfield, while Alexis Mac Allister can control possession and break Fulham’s pressure with progressive passing. Bradley Barcola’s arrival has also increased Iraola’s options in the wide positions, even if Gakpo and Victor Munoz remain the safer projected starters.
Liverpool have not been completely secure. They conceded twice in each of their opening two matches, with Newcastle and Forest both creating problems after turnovers and direct attacks. The clean sheet against Ipswich represented progress, although stronger defensive opposition may have punished Liverpool for not adding to their early lead.
Fulham have no league points after defeats against Chelsea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace. However, the 3–2 loss against Palace was their best attacking performance of the season. They led twice, generated 25 shots and produced an expected-goals total above 3.00, with Josh King scoring one goal and creating another.
The problem was Fulham’s defending. Palace equalized twice before scoring the winner in the second half, taking Fulham’s total to seven goals conceded across three matches. Liverpool’s pace, pressing and variety in the final third make similar defensive mistakes especially dangerous.
Fulham have enough creativity to trouble Liverpool, particularly through King, Oscar Bobb, Alex Iwobi and César Palacios. The difference is that Liverpool currently offer more reliable finishing and significantly greater depth, making them clear favorites without making the result a certainty.

Liverpool vs Fulham Odds
- Liverpool win — 69%: Liverpool are strong favorites after taking five points from three matches and receiving three goals from Isak across their last two games.
- Draw — 19%: Fulham earned a 2–2 draw in the first meeting last season and have enough attacking quality to make the contest competitive.
- Fulham win — 14%: Fulham’s three league defeats and seven goals conceded explain their underdog position, although their performance against Palace offered some encouragement.
Liverpool Team News
Joe Gomez is expected to return to team training after recovering from a muscle injury. The Fulham match may still arrive too soon for him to start, but his progress could provide Iraola with another defensive option.
Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike remain sidelined with long-term injuries. Bradley underwent surgery on a significant knee problem, while Ekitike continues his rehabilitation from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Giovanni Leoni is working toward a return to group training after an ACL injury, while Federico Chiesa is expected to resume team training later in September following a preseason muscle problem. Liverpool have no players suspended.
Ronald Araujo made his first start against Ipswich and helped Liverpool record their first clean sheet of the campaign. Iraola must decide whether to retain the defender or restore Jeremie Frimpong for additional attacking width.
Barcola made his Liverpool debut from the bench against Ipswich and will compete with Gakpo and Munoz for a starting position. Gakpo’s two assists and Munoz’s goal against Forest make an unchanged attacking unit the most likely initial selection.
Fulham Team News
Tom Cairney remains unavailable with a knee injury and is not expected to return until later in the autumn. His absence removes an experienced midfield option as Arbeloa continues to establish his preferred system.
Fulham otherwise had a strong selection available against Crystal Palace. Recent arrivals Shea Charles and Gonzalo García started, while Hugo Larsson, David Affengruber and Miguel Ángel were named among the substitutes.
Arbeloa could consider defensive changes after his team conceded three goals against Palace. Affengruber is an alternative at center back, while Ryan Sessegnon could challenge Antonee Robinson on the left.
Sander Berge replaced Palacios during the Palace match and offers a more defensive midfield option. Starting him alongside Charles could protect the back four, although Fulham would lose some of the attacking movement that helped them produce their best offensive display of the season.
King should retain his place after scoring and assisting against Palace. The 19-year-old has been one of Fulham’s strongest performers during a difficult start, combining intelligently with Bobb, Palacios and García around the penalty area.
Liverpool Lineup
Liverpool are projected to use a fluid 4-2-3-1 formation.
The principal selection decision is between Araujo and Frimpong on the right.
- Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker
- Defenders: Ronald Araujo, Jeremy Jacquet, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez
- Midfielders: Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz
- Forwards: Victor Munoz, Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo
Fulham Lineup
Fulham are projected to continue in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Arbeloa could make defensive changes, but the attacking display against Palace supports continuity.
- Goalkeeper: Bernd Leno
- Defenders: Timothy Castagne, Joachim Andersen, Calvin Bassey, Antonee Robinson
- Midfielders: Shea Charles, Alex Iwobi, Oscar Bobb, Josh King, César Palacios
- Forward: Gonzalo García
Key Liverpool vs Fulham Matchup Factors
Can Fulham contain the Gakpo and Isak partnership?
Gakpo and Isak have combined effectively in Liverpool’s last two matches. Gakpo created Isak’s equalizer against Forest before producing both assists during the victory over Ipswich.
Gakpo’s tendency to move inside from the left can create space for Kerkez to advance, while Isak is comfortable receiving with his back to goal or attacking the channels. That movement may force Andersen and Bassey to defend wider than they would prefer.
Fulham must prevent Liverpool from finding Isak early. Once he receives possession around the penalty area, his quick footwork and ability to finish with either foot make it difficult for defenders to recover.
Charles may be asked to remain close to Wirtz and block the passes feeding Isak. If he becomes too focused on that central threat, Liverpool could instead progress through Szoboszlai or switch the ball toward Gakpo and Munoz.
Can Liverpool protect themselves against Fulham’s transitions?
Liverpool’s first two matches exposed some vulnerability after losing possession. Newcastle countered to score their second goal, while Forest repeatedly attacked the space around Liverpool’s advanced defenders.
Fulham possess players capable of exploiting a similar pattern. King carries the ball confidently between midfield and attack, while Bobb, Iwobi and Palacios can move quickly into the space created when Liverpool’s fullbacks advance.
Fulham’s challenge will be surviving Liverpool’s pressure long enough to launch those attacks. Poor passes during the build-up could leave Fulham defending against Isak and Wirtz before their back four have time to reorganize.
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai will therefore have important defensive responsibilities. Their positioning behind the initial press could determine whether Fulham’s attacking midfielders receive the ball in space or are forced into hopeful clearances.
Can Fulham solve their problems in the wide defensive areas?
Crystal Palace’s three goals against Fulham all came from players attacking from the left side. Tyrick Mitchell scored twice before substitute Ben Chilwell completed the comeback, exposing coordination problems between Fulham’s fullbacks, midfielders and center backs.
Liverpool are well equipped to target those spaces. Gakpo can move inside to combine with Isak, leaving Kerkez room to overlap, while Barcola offers another direct option if introduced.
On the opposite side, Munoz and either Araujo or Frimpong can test Robinson’s positioning. Frimpong would offer more overlapping speed, while Araujo provides greater defensive security against Fulham’s counters.
Fulham need clearer communication when Liverpool rotate positions. Following every movement could pull their defensive line apart, but remaining too narrow would allow Liverpool’s wide players time to deliver into the penalty area.
Liverpool vs Fulham Head-to-Head
Liverpool were unbeaten across the two Premier League meetings last season, taking four points from a possible six.
The first match ended 2–2. Harry Wilson gave Fulham the lead before Wirtz equalized, while Gakpo appeared to have scored a stoppage-time winner. Harrison Reed responded three minutes later with a long-range equalizer.
Liverpool won the second meeting 2–0. Rio Ngumoha opened the scoring before Mohamed Salah added another goal four minutes later, with Fulham unable to recover despite improving after halftime.
The recent record favors Liverpool, but the 2–2 draw demonstrated Fulham’s ability to remain dangerous without controlling possession. Wilson hit the woodwork in addition to scoring, while Fulham found space behind Liverpool’s defensive structure during transitions.
What Could Move the Liverpool vs Fulham Odds?
Gomez’s progress could strengthen Liverpool’s defensive depth, although he is unlikely to displace the current starters immediately after returning to training.
Iraola’s choice between Araujo and Frimpong may influence expectations around the shape of the match. Frimpong would increase Liverpool’s attacking width, while Araujo offers more protection against Fulham’s transition threat.
Barcola’s role is another variable. A first Liverpool start would add direct pace, but Gakpo’s creative performance against Ipswich makes him difficult to leave out.
For Fulham, the midfield balance will be important. Introducing Berge or Larsson could provide more defensive security, while retaining Palacios would signal a more aggressive approach.
Any new injury or fitness concerns following training could also affect the probabilities, particularly if they involve Isak, Gakpo, King or one of Fulham’s starting defenders.
