Coventry City vs Brighton prediction, odds and lineups
Prediction markets make Brighton 53% favorites, but Coventry's improved display against Manchester City and Brighton's slow starts leave room for a home upset.

Coventry are still waiting for their first Premier League point and goal, but their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City offered more encouragement than either statistic suggests.
Taiwo Awoniyi had an early opening, Jack Rudoni was denied from close range and only Erling Haaland separated the teams.
Brighton have made the more productive start. Fabian Hürzeler's side have taken four points and scored eight goals, including four against Aston Villa and three at Chelsea.
The concern is how uneven those performances have been. Leeds controlled much of Saturday's 1-1 draw before Brighton found their rhythm.

Brighton merit favoritism because their attacking ceiling is considerably higher. Pascal Groß gives them control and delivery, Diego Gómez carries threat from the right and Malick Yalcouyé adds penetration through the center. Coventry have not converted any of their chances.
That is not the same as calling Brighton secure. Chelsea scored three times against them inside 32 minutes, and Leeds created enough chances to establish a larger lead before Luka Vušković's second-half equalizer.
Brighton have recovered impressively within games, but their slow starts leave an obvious route for Coventry.
Lampard's side have also been more competitive than three defeats might suggest. Awoniyi was repeatedly denied against Hull, while Coventry created enough at Manchester City for Frank Lampard to believe they deserved a point.
The finishing has been poor. The chance creation has not disappeared.
The biggest uncertainty is Brighton's attacking availability. Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh remain out, while Georginio Rutter missed the Leeds game. Without natural width and a settled center forward, Brighton will be easier for Coventry to compress.
Brighton are still the likeliest winners. Their greater technical quality should eventually expose Coventry, especially if the hosts have to chase the game. A narrow Brighton win is the assessment, with the draw a serious alternative.

Coventry City vs Brighton odds
- Brighton win — 53%
- Draw — 26%
- Coventry City win — 23%
Brighton are more likely to win than either alternative, but this is clear favoritism rather than mismatch pricing.
Only three points separate the draw and a Coventry win. If Brighton fall short, the market sees a frustrating stalemate and a first Coventry league victory as almost equally plausible outcomes.
Coventry City team news
Lampard used a 4-2-3-1 in Coventry's first two league games before switching to a back five against Manchester City.
Brighton present a different problem. Coventry need their first goal and are likely to return to four defenders, allowing Rudoni to operate behind Awoniyi.
Haji Wright remains out with a thigh injury, while Luke Woolfenden and Kaine Kesler-Hayden have also been unavailable.
Awoniyi has therefore become the first-choice No. 9 and has started Coventry's past two league games. His missed opportunities are a concern, but his movement and physical presence continue to produce chances. Ellis Simms is the likelier second-half alternative.
Yann Gboho has completed his move from Toulouse, although UK visa approval was still pending when the transfer was announced, and he did not feature against Manchester City.
He could challenge Ephron Mason-Clark if cleared. For now, the established Tchaouna-Rudoni-Mason-Clark line is projected.
Brighton team news
Hürzeler retained his 4-2-3-1 against Leeds despite a long injury list. Groß and Yasin Ayari formed the deeper pair, with Yalcouyé ahead of them and Gómez and Maxim De Cuyper providing the width. Ayari was the only change within that front six from the Chelsea game.
Mitoma is not expected back until after the international break, while Minteh, Mats Wieffer, Jack Hinshelwood, Femi Azeez and Evan Ferguson are also sidelined.
Rutter was considered a possible option against Leeds but did not make the squad, so his progress is the most important fitness question this week.
Charalampos Kostoulas should remain at No. 9 unless Rutter proves ready to start. In defense, summer signing Vušković has started all three league games and scored against Leeds, while Lewis Dunk remains the organizer alongside him. Ferdi Kadıoğlu currently holds off Costinha at right back.

Coventry City vs Brighton key matchup factors
Can Coventry turn Awoniyi's openings into their first league goal?
Awoniyi has been close without scoring. He forced an excellent save from point-blank range against Hull, then ran clear early at Manchester City but placed his effort wide. Those chances show that Coventry can release him; the missing part is the finish.
Brighton have conceded five times in two games. Chelsea found space around their back line and Leeds repeatedly reached shooting positions during the first hour. Awoniyi should have another opportunity. Coventry cannot assume there will be many.
Will Brighton start quickly enough?
Brighton trailed Chelsea 3-0 after 32 minutes and were fortunate to be only one behind at halftime against Leeds.
They responded in both games, scoring three at Chelsea and taking 17 second-half shots against Leeds, but cannot keep relying on repairs.
Coventry began aggressively against both Hull and Manchester City. If they can reproduce that pressure at home, Brighton's improvised left side and possession-heavy buildup may be tested before the visitors settle.
Can Groß and Yalcouyé play through Coventry's central block?
Groß controls Brighton's tempo and set pieces, while Yalcouyé gives the midfield an explosive runner between the lines.
Their different qualities make Brighton harder to contain than a side built around one creator.
Coventry's response is likely to be Grimes holding position with Onyeka stepping forward to disrupt.
That partnership offers more ball-winning strength than the Grimes-Yirenkyi pairing used against Hull, although it may give Coventry less calm possession of their own.
If Brighton escape the first challenge, Rudoni could be pulled too deep to help Awoniyi.
How much do Brighton lose without their natural wingers?
Mitoma and Minteh normally stretch a defense in opposite directions.
Without them, De Cuyper has been used high on the left and Gómez has carried much of the one-on-one burden from the right. Both can create, but the shape is less settled and easier to compress.
Against a narrow Coventry defense, Brighton may need their fullbacks to advance and create width. That would leave space for Tchaouna and Mason-Clark when possession turns over—the hosts' clearest counterattacking route.
Coventry City vs Brighton head-to-head
There is little recent history to carry predictive weight. The clubs last met in the FA Cup in February 2018, when Brighton won 3-1.
Their previous league meetings came in the Championship in 2011-12, with Brighton winning 2-1 before Coventry answered with a 2-0 victory.
The more relevant connection is Rushworth. Coventry's goalkeeper joined permanently from Brighton this summer after spending last season on loan with Lampard's side, keeping 17 clean sheets during their promotion campaign.
What could move Coventry City vs Brighton odds before kickoff?
Rutter's fitness is the clearest Brighton variable. A return would give Hürzeler another player capable of receiving between the lines or leading the attack, easing the creative burden created by the winger injuries.
Any unexpectedly positive update on Mitoma would be even more significant, although his stated timeline points beyond this fixture.
For Coventry, confirmation of Gboho's availability and role could alter the attacking projection.
Lampard's formation also matters: retaining the back five used against Manchester City would signal a more cautious approach, while the projected 4-2-3-1 would put another attacker around Awoniyi.
The final choice between Onyeka and Yirenkyi could indicate whether Coventry prioritize disruption or possession.
