The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles reach Monday night with matching 2-4 records and very different quarterback situations. Philadelphia is building around Tanner McKee while Jalen Hurts remains on injured reserve. Dallas has Dak Prescott, but its offense has stopped providing the points needed to cover for a struggling defense.
The Cowboys lost 23-13 in Green Bay after going into halftime scoreless. The Eagles fell 25-14 to Carolina, extending their losing streak to four games and managing just 35 rushing yards without Saquon Barkley.
This is an opportunity to regain ground in the NFC East race. It is also a test of which team can give its quarterback a more workable evening. Neither offense can afford another game spent trying to repair the damage from early mistakes.

Dallas has the stronger offensive outlook because Prescott can work with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, while Philadelphia is adjusting to a new starting quarterback behind a line that has changed substantially. Barkley's unresolved availability adds another complication for the Eagles.
The Cowboys' recent performances make the size of that advantage harder to trust. They have lost consecutive games, and Green Bay converted nine of 10 third downs in the first half on Sunday. Dallas cannot give McKee repeated opportunities to settle in and expect the difference at quarterback to decide everything.
Philadelphia's best route is to pressure Prescott, keep Lamb from turning routine completions into sustained drives and give McKee short, manageable throws to DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. The Cowboys merit the stronger position, but they still have to show they can protect the ball and get their defense off the field.
Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles odds
Dallas Cowboys win: 66%
Philadelphia Eagles win: 35%
The market favors the visitors clearly despite their identical record to Philadelphia. Hurts' absence and the Eagles' difficulty producing offense support that distinction. Dallas' own problems against pressure leave the home team a credible way to make the game closer than the prices suggest.
Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles game outlook
Philadelphia can take encouragement from how Green Bay disrupted Prescott. The Packers pressured him 21 times, and the Cowboys struggled even when he released the ball quickly. Dallas needs receivers and protection working to the same answer when extra rushers come, so Prescott can deliver decisively without forcing a throw through coverage.
Lamb and Pickens give the Eagles competing problems. Extra attention toward Lamb can create opportunities outside, but Dallas has to stay out of the long-yardage situations that allow Philadelphia to defend the pass first. Javonte Williams needs enough productive early carries to keep Brian Schottenheimer from asking Prescott to throw throughout the second half again.
McKee faces a defense that has already begun changing its personnel usage. Dallas moved Caleb Downs closer to the line more often against Green Bay and increased rookie edge rusher Malachi Lawrence's workload. Those adjustments offer ways to contest short throws and pressure the pocket, but they have yet to produce consistent stops.
Smith and Goedert give McKee established targets who can punish loose coverage. Philadelphia needs to create completions that move the chains without making every first down a difficult third-down throw. A Barkley return would help that effort, although the offensive line still has to open space for him.
Injury report and team news
Dallas Cowboys
KaVontae Turpin left the Packers game after a hit on the opening kickoff and did not return. His rib issue leaves uncertainty around both the receiving depth and return duties. Tyler Goodson handled kickoffs and Jonathan Mingo returned punts in his absence.
Dee Winters suffered an Achilles strain against Green Bay. DeMarvion Overshown missed that game with a hamstring injury, leaving the linebacker group dependent on how both recover during the week.
Cobie Durant is working toward a return from a hamstring injury. Schottenheimer said he was trending toward playing against Philadelphia, but that remains an expectation ahead of the final game-status report.
Philadelphia Eagles
Hurts is unavailable on injured reserve. In an October 19 statement, the Eagles and his agent said he cannot take part in contact activities during treatment for blood clots. McKee is the starting quarterback; Hurts' return date has not been established by that statement.
Barkley missed the Carolina game with a hamstring injury. His status for Dallas remains unresolved as of October 20. Dameon Pierce led the backfield last week, with Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby on injured reserve.
Smith returned against Carolina and caught seven passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Jonathan Greenard also returned, but Nolan Smith left the game with a concussion. Jalyx Hunt missed Week 6 with knee and ankle issues, so the edge rotation still has several availability questions.
Landon Dickerson was not activated from injured reserve for the Panthers game. His potential return would help an offensive line already adjusting to Lane Johnson's retirement and Cam Jurgens' trade to Baltimore.
Key factors that could decide Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles
Can Prescott turn pressure into an opening for his receivers?
Getting the ball out quickly did not solve Dallas' problems against Green Bay. Prescott threw both interceptions on attempts released in under 2.5 seconds. The first throw has to be the right one, with the receiver expecting it and the quarterback clear about where the coverage leaves space.
Philadelphia can make that harder through its defensive front and selective pressure. Dallas has to make the Eagles pay when they commit extra defenders, especially if Lamb draws help that leaves Pickens with room outside.
Can the Cowboys stop a drive after winning first and second down?
Green Bay's opening touchdown drive included two conversions on third-and-13. That is an invitation for McKee to build confidence if Dallas repeats it.
The Cowboys need coverage that holds up after the initial rush. Goedert gives Philadelphia a target between the numbers, while Smith can make difficult catches outside. Pressure alone will not end possessions if either is left with enough room to reach the marker.
Will either running game take pressure off its quarterback?
Dallas rushed for 48 yards in Green Bay. Philadelphia managed even fewer against Carolina. Both offenses ended up depending heavily on the pass, making the protection problems harder to escape.
Williams gives Dallas a chance to avoid that pattern if the Cowboys stay close early. For the Eagles, Barkley's availability changes the options, but his return would still need to be accompanied by cleaner blocking and fewer negative plays. McKee will have a much more manageable night if second down does not routinely require a long completion.
Can Philadelphia keep promising plays from being erased?
McKee completed a 20-yard pass to Darius Cooper against Carolina that was wiped out by holding. An offense trying to establish a rhythm cannot keep surrendering gains that way.
The yardage attached to NFL penalties can change the next play as much as the one being called back. Philadelphia needs the freedom to mix runs, shorter passes and occasional deeper throws. Repeated long-yardage situations would let Dallas narrow its attention to McKee.
What could move Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles odds?
Barkley's status is the largest unresolved question for Philadelphia's offense. Dickerson's possible activation could also improve its options up front, while Nolan Smith's concussion progress and Hunt's availability affect how the Eagles can rotate their pass rushers.
Dallas will be watching Durant, Overshown, Winters and Turpin. Returns in the secondary or at linebacker would give the Cowboys more choices against Smith and Goedert; another absence would place greater responsibility on the players already struggling to finish defensive possessions.
