Online card ripping brings the thrill of opening a new pack of collectible cards to your screen. One swipe, and your next collectible is revealed.
In this article, we’ll explain what online card ripping is, how it works and how to open your first pack with OG.com.
What is online card ripping?
Card ripping means opening a pack to discover its contents. Online, that can involve watching someone open a physical pack or using an app that reveals cards digitally and sharing the reveal with your friends via social media.
The surprise is familiar to a physical card reveal; the practical details are different. With OG.com Rips, for example, your digital cards are stored in a secure vault for seven days. You may choose to trade them for cash, or arrange a physical delivery.
From tobacco packs to digital Pokémons*
Collecting cards predates the internet by more than a century. In the 1880s, tobacco companies used baseball cards to promote sales and stiffen soft cigarette packages. The collectible once helped protect the packaging.
Then there is the famous lost-at-sea story. Topps, a trading card maker company, recounts that unsold cases of its 1952 baseball cards were loaded onto a barge and dumped at sea.Details remain disputed, but the tale became part of the set’s lore.
Pokémon* introduced another generation into card collecting. Its trading card game launched in Japan in 1996 and reached the U.S. in 1999, giving fans cards they could collect, trade, and use in battles. Opening a pack offered a double excitement: finding a favorite character and discovering a card for the next deck.

Online pack ripping adds a new way to experience the reveal: you can discover a physical collectible on-screen, share the pull with friends, and decide whether to have it delivered.
How does online card ripping work?
The process typically has three stages:
- Choose a pack. Review its category, price, and possible contents.
- Open it online. An animated reveal shows your allocated card. Selecting a pack does not mean selecting the card inside. You can typically share the moment of reveal with your friends on social media.
- Review your options. Check the card details and buyback offer, then choose whether to sell or arrange delivery within the applicable deadline.
When you open card packs online, the purchase price and card value are separate. A $50 pack can reveal a card worth less than $50.
How is online ripping different from card breaks and rip and ship?
All three let you discover cards online. The difference is whether an app reveals a card for you, a host opens your own pack, or you share a larger opening with other buyers.
Format | How it works | What you receive |
Instant online rip | You buy a digital pack and reveal a physical collectible through an animation. | The card or cards included in that product. For example, each paid OG.com Rips pack contains one card. |
Personal rip and ship | You buy a physical pack or box. A host opens it for you, usually on a livestream, then ships the cards. | The contents of your purchased pack or box, subject to the seller’s stated terms. |
Shared card break | Several buyers purchase spots in the same opening. The host opens the packs or boxes and divides the cards under the break’s rules. | Cards matching your spot, such as a particular team or player. |
The names can overlap: a personal rip and ship may also be called a “personal break.” In a shared break, check how spots are assigned and which cards are included in shipping, as some sellers exclude common base cards.
Are the cards real, and how can you check them?
Check the allocated card’s year, set, number, edition and condition, plus available images and delivery terms.
For graded cards, compare the certification number and details with the grader’s records, such as PSA’s certification lookup.
PSA cautions that counterfeit labels can copy genuine numbers, so compare the card and holder with available records, too.
What should you check before paying for an online rip?
When comparing card ripping apps, look beyond the headline cards:
- Purchase contents: How many cards are included, and how are they selected?
- Probabilities: Do the published chances cover individual cards, rarity groups, or value ranges?
- Authentication: Who checks the cards, and can you verify their details?
- Full cost: Check shipping, insurance, taxes and other applicable charges.
- Buyback terms: Review the offer, its deadline and how proceeds can be used.
- Missed deadlines: Find out what happens if you take no action.
- Eligibility: Check age, location and account requirements.
How does OG.com Rips work?
OG.com Rips launched on 29 Oct 2026, bringing animated reveals, physical-card shipping, and buybacks into the app and website. Its four categories are NFL*, NBA*, MLB*, and Pokémon*.
Each category has six paid pack tiers:
Tier | Price |
Rookie | $5 |
Emerald | $25 |
Ruby | $50 |
Titan | $100 |
Legend | $250 |
OG Eternal | $1,000 |
These are pack tiers. The six card rarities are Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythic. Each pack’s Odds page shows its probabilities and value ranges.
Eligible users aged 18 and over can jump into their first rip without completing identity verification. You can buy packs, reveal cards, hold them for seven days or sell them back. You’ll need to verify your identity to deposit or withdraw cash or have cards shipped to your door.
Pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a credit or debit card before verification. Once verified, the app uses your USD Wallet by default if you have enough settled funds to cover the purchase.
What happens after you open a pack?
The reveal is just the start. On OG.com Rips, you can sell your card immediately or choose to hold it in My collection while you decide.
- Sell: If you’re not happy with your card, you can accept the buyback offer from our partner Phygitals. The card is sold, and cash goes straight into your USD Wallet.
- Keep: You have seven days from the reveal to request tracked, insured delivery to your door. Shipping requires identity verification. While you’re deciding, your physical cards are stored in a secure vault.
- Take no action: Once the seven days end, your card is automatically sold at the buyback offer and can no longer be shipped.
Each card in My collection has a countdown showing how much time you have left before you decide to ship or sell.

FAQs about online card ripping
Are the cards you get from online card ripping real?
They are when you choose a physical-backed card. OG.com Rips reveals real, graded collectibles, and you can request physical shipping, which is tracked and insured; or you can decide to sell your cards. Digital-only card products are a different category.
What types of collectible cards can you get from online packs?
The selection depends on the provider. OG.com Rips includes football, basketball, baseball and Pokémon cards. Check each pack’s available contents.
How much does it cost to open card packs online?
OG.com’s paid packs range from $5 for Rookie to $1,000 for OG Eternal. Check current prices and any delivery charges before purchasing.
Can you choose which card you receive?
Generally, you choose the pack, not the individual card. Buying a specific card directly removes that uncertainty, but it also removes the thrill of the reveal.
Can you check the chances of getting a particular card before opening a pack?
Yes. OG.com’s pack-specific Odds page shows probabilities and value ranges. Check whether a percentage covers a rarity category or an individual card.
What does it mean for a card to be graded?
A grading service assesses the card’s condition. PSA’s grading standards, for example, consider features such as corners, centering and surface condition. A condition grade is different from rarity.
Can you have the cards you reveal shipped to your home?
Yes. On OG.com Rips, complete identity verification and request delivery of an eligible card to a U.S. address within seven days of the pull. Delivery is tracked and insured.
Are shipping costs included in the pack price?
On OG.com, shipping is paid separately. Depending on the destination state, tax may apply to the original paid pack price and shipping and handling. Orders containing only free-pack cards are not taxed.
Can you sell a card instead of having it shipped?
Yes. Select Sell to accept Phygitals’ buyback offer. Phygitals is OG.com’s fulfillment partner. You can sell immediately after the reveal or during the seven-day holding window.
How is a card’s buyback value determined?
OG.com’s fulfillment partner Phygitals provides the displayed buyback value. It is the offer for your card, not a refund of the pack price.
Does a buyback mean you get your pack purchase price back?
No. You receive the offered amount for the card. For example, a $30 buyback on a $50 pack leaves you $20 below your purchase cost, before other charges.
Can you withdraw the money you receive from selling a card back?
Yes. OG.com credits sale proceeds to your USD Wallet, and you can withdraw after completing identity verification.
What happens if you do not choose to ship or sell your card?
OG.com automatically sells the card after seven days. It moves out of My collection, and you can no longer request shipping.
