Seattle Seahawks at Washington Commanders prediction

Seattle could hardly arrive in stronger shape. The Seahawks are 2-0 after beating Arizona 31-7, their defense has controlled both games and Jaxon Smith-Njigba has just scored three touchdowns.

Washington is 0-2, conceded 37 points at Dallas and now faces the far more important question of Daniels' health. The market gap reflects two teams moving in opposite directions. Marcus Mariota may be asked to stop that movement immediately.

Seattle deserves the clear advantage. Mike Macdonald's defense has conceded only 20 points through two games, the front is controlling early downs and the secondary is forcing quarterbacks to complete difficult throws underneath.

That is a difficult environment for any offense, let alone one adjusting to an injured starting quarterback.

Daniels' absence would change almost every element of Washington's attack. His designed runs, option decisions and scrambling ability force defenses to account for an additional gap.

Mariota can still move, but he does not create the same combination of explosive rushing and developing downfield passing.

Seattle also proved it can function without Sam Darnold. Drew Lock threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns at Arizona, with Smith-Njigba scoring all three. That performance is significant because it prevents Washington from assuming the Seahawks become conservative if Darnold is not ready.

The Commanders' strongest argument is that their offense moved the ball before Daniels went down. He completed his first six passes, found Stefon Diggs for a touchdown and repeatedly used his legs to extend drives.

Diggs scored again with Mariota in the second half. Washington still has enough receiving talent to test Seattle if the protection holds.

Protection is the problem. Leonard Williams and Seattle's front can compress the pocket without abandoning coverage, while the defense's shell structure forces opponents to string together long drives. Washington has already struggled to sustain offense consistently this season.

The home team can make this competitive by running efficiently, avoiding turnovers and finding Diggs and Terry McLaurin on schedule. Seattle's defensive consistency and quarterback flexibility make the Seahawks the stronger side.

Seattle Seahawks vs Washington Commanders odds

  • Seattle Seahawks win: 73%
  • Washington Commanders win: 28%

The market prices Seattle as a strong road favorite. The Seahawks' 2-0 start matters, but the quarterback contrast created by Daniels' injury is the larger driver.

Washington's 28% reflects home advantage and receiving talent rather than confidence in the current structure. A clearer timeline for Daniels would be capable of changing the market materially.

Seattle began the season as one of the principal NFC teams in our 2026 NFL predictions. Its first two defensive performances have strengthened that case.

Seattle Seahawks vs Washington Commanders game outlook

If Mariota starts, Washington should simplify the game rather than attempt to reproduce the complete Daniels offense. Read-option concepts can preserve some quarterback-run stress, while quick throws to Diggs and McLaurin can prevent Seattle's rush from dictating every long-yardage snap.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt needs a larger role in that plan. Washington cannot expose Mariota to repeated third-and-long situations against a defense that disguises pressure and rotates coverage after the snap.

Seattle will try to close those easy exits. Williams and Byron Murphy II can attack the interior, allowing the edges to maintain contain. Macdonald can then keep two safeties high and challenge Washington to run efficiently enough to change the structure.

On the other side, Smith-Njigba is the obvious problem. His three-touchdown performance against Arizona came through varied alignments and route depths. Washington cannot simply assign one corner and consider the job complete.

Cooper Kupp and the running backs create the secondary stress. If Washington rolls coverage toward Smith-Njigba, Lock or Darnold can work the middle and underneath areas. If it stays balanced, Smith-Njigba receives more isolated routes.

Washington's defense must create pressure before those combinations develop. The Commanders showed flashes against Philadelphia in Week 1 but gave Dak Prescott too much early comfort in Dallas. Seattle is at its best when the quarterback can play on schedule and the running game stays ahead of the chains.

Team news and injuries

Seattle Seahawks

Darnold missed Week 2 with a glute injury. Macdonald said the quarterback's timetable had shifted positively and that there was a chance he would return to practice during the week. Lock played the entire win at Arizona and is the available starter if Darnold is not cleared.

Rookie running back Jadarian Price left the Arizona game with a chest injury, but postgame X-rays were negative. Nose tackle Brandon Pili entered the concussion protocol. George Holani was evaluated during the game and cleared to return.

Safety Nick Emmanwori returned for a limited role after ankle surgery and is expected to take on more work. Receiver Tory Horton also returned.

Washington Commanders

Daniels dislocated his left elbow before halftime against Dallas. Initial X-rays showed no fracture, with further testing scheduled after the game. Quinn said the Commanders would rally around Mariota until Daniels returns.

Mariota finished the Dallas game and is the expected replacement if Daniels is unavailable. Diggs caught two touchdown passes, while McLaurin was more involved than he had been in Week 1.

Linebacker Frankie Luvu and tight end Chig Okonkwo were ruled out of Week 2. Their availability would affect Washington's pass rush and the short receiving options available to the quarterback.

Key factors that could decide Seattle Seahawks vs Washington Commanders

Who starts at quarterback for each team?

Seattle has already won with Lock. Washington is dealing with a more disruptive change because Daniels' rushing threat is central to the offense.

Can Washington contain Jaxon Smith-Njigba?

Arizona could not track him across formations or in the red zone. Washington must communicate through motion without creating isolated matchups elsewhere.

Does Seattle win with its front four?

If Williams and the defensive line create pressure without blitzing, Macdonald can keep the secondary focused on Diggs and McLaurin.

Can Mariota sustain the running element?

Mariota is mobile enough to preserve option concepts. Washington needs that threat to prevent Seattle from treating every snap as a conventional dropback.

Will the Commanders protect the ball?

An undermanned offense cannot give Seattle short fields. The Seahawks are comfortable winning slowly if Washington avoids obvious mistakes.

What could move Seattle Seahawks vs Washington Commanders odds before kickoff?

Daniels' medical testing is the dominant variable. Any realistic path to availability would narrow the gap; confirmation of an extended absence would reinforce Seattle's position.

Darnold's status matters less because Lock has already performed well, but the starter still changes Seattle's passing rhythm and experience level. Price, Pili and Emmanwori are the other notable Seahawks to follow.

Washington's outlook would improve if Luvu returns to strengthen the pressure package. Without him, Seattle may again receive too much comfort from its base offense.
