The Seattle Seahawks have already ended one San Francisco 49ers season in emphatic fashion this year.
Eight months after a 41-6 playoff win, they welcome an opponent that has started 2026 with four straight victories and one of the league's most efficient passing attacks.
Seattle is 3-1 after turning four takeaways and a productive ground game into a 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. San Francisco beat Denver 24-14, but the result came with another series of injuries.
The rivalry remains familiar; the balance of power is not settled.

Seattle's defense has just produced four takeaways, and its recent success against San Francisco includes two wins in the space of 14 days last January. The Seahawks also have home advantage. This is not the same depleted 49ers team they eliminated, though.
Brock Purdy has opened the season with 1,007 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception. He has not been sacked in four games. San Francisco's protection, play-action structure and ability to move the launch point have kept opponents from turning pressure into drive-ending plays.
Seattle can change that. Mike Macdonald's defense sacked Herbert repeatedly, forced him to fumble on the Chargers' final possession and intercepted him twice. Nick Emmanwori's return has added another flexible rusher to a unit that can create pressure without declaring where it will come from.
The Seahawks also have the offensive balance to attack an injured San Francisco defense. Emanuel Wilson produced 81 rushing yards and 39 receiving yards against Los Angeles, while Rashid Shaheed added a 28-yard touchdown run. Jaxon Smith-Njigba remains the primary receiving threat even when the ball is distributed elsewhere.
San Francisco's case begins with offensive efficiency. Purdy threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns against Denver, George Kittle turned a short-window throw into a 56-yard score and the 49ers again kept their quarterback clean. Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel Sr. and Mike Evans force Seattle to defend every part of the formation.
The Seahawks have the narrow edge because their defense can disrupt the timing on which San Francisco depends. The 49ers are good enough to punish one coverage error, so this remains much closer than the teams' January playoff meeting.
San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks odds
San Francisco 49ers win: 43%
Seattle Seahawks win: 59%
The market makes Seattle the favorite but leaves San Francisco with a substantial probability for an away team. That respects the 49ers' 4-0 record and Purdy's start while accounting for Seattle's home advantage, recent head-to-head success and defensive playmaking.
The NFC West outlook gives the wider context. San Francisco can take an early divisional lead with a road win. Seattle can move ahead of its rival and reinforce the hierarchy established during last season's playoff run.
San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks game outlook
San Francisco will try to control Seattle's disguise before the snap. Motion can force the Seahawks to reveal whether defenders are traveling with receivers, while McCaffrey's alignment can identify a linebacker or safety responsible for him in coverage.
Purdy has handled those pictures quickly. His 126.2 passer rating through four games is built on aggressive throws without the usual turnover cost. Seattle needs to change the picture after the snap and make him reset rather than allowing the ball to arrive at the top of his drop.
Emmanwori gives Macdonald another way to do it. The safety recorded an 11-yard sack against Herbert and can threaten the line of scrimmage before dropping into coverage. Ernest Jones IV and Drake Thomas also intercepted passes in Week 4, giving Seattle multiple second-level defenders capable of affecting the passing lanes.
Kittle is the problem Seattle cannot solve with pressure alone. He has 244 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season, and his 56-yard score against Denver showed how quickly a modest gain can become decisive. The Seahawks must tackle immediately when he finds space behind the linebackers.
When Seattle has the ball, the running backs can test a thinner San Francisco front. Wilson ran decisively against the Chargers and was productive as a receiver, but the backfield remains in transition with Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet working toward a return.
Sam Darnold does not need to force the game. Seattle can use play action, move Smith-Njigba through the formation and create touches for Shaheed before asking Darnold to attack deeper. That approach also limits the opportunities for Fred Warner to disguise coverage on obvious passing downs.
San Francisco's defense still has answers. Warner controls the middle, Dre Greenlaw brings speed and the secondary can challenge receivers when the pass rush stays connected. The question is whether another week of injuries reduces the number of packages coordinator Robert Saleh can use.
Team news and injuries
San Francisco 49ers
Purdy is the confirmed starter and has completed 79 of 113 passes through four games. He has thrown 11 touchdowns with one interception and has not been sacked.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk will miss several weeks after hyperextending his knee and suffering a bone bruise against Denver. Safety Marques Sigle sustained a high ankle sprain and will also miss time. Defensive back Upton Stout is day-to-day with an AC joint sprain.
Nick Bosa did not play against the Broncos, while San Francisco's defensive line was already operating with a reduced rotation. The 49ers welcomed Mike Evans and Romello Height back in Week 4, but the defense now has fresh questions in the secondary.
Seattle Seahawks
Darnold remains the confirmed starter. Seattle relied less on its passing game against the Chargers, but the offense scored 30 points and found different ways to create short fields and explosive plays.
Leonard Williams left the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Mike Macdonald described the team as optimistic about his availability against San Francisco, although his practice work will matter for a matchup against a strong 49ers line.
Price is on injured reserve with a chest injury. Charbonnet has been designated to return from the physically unable to perform list, but Wilson's Week 4 performance gives Seattle less reason to rush the decision. Safety Julian Love returned from a calf injury against the Chargers, while Ty Okada missed a fourth consecutive game with a hamstring problem.
Key factors that could decide San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks
Can Seattle end Purdy's sack-free run?
San Francisco has protected Purdy through four games without allowing a sack. Seattle can threaten protection from several levels, but it needs to force a hurried throw or bring him down before the route develops.
How does San Francisco account for Emmanwori?
Emmanwori can align deep, cover a tight end or attack the pocket. His versatility complicates protection calls because Purdy cannot assume that a defender showing pressure will actually rush.
Can the Seahawks run against an injured defense?
Wilson gave Seattle a physical inside option in Week 4, while Shaheed added speed on the perimeter. A reliable run game would prevent Warner and the 49ers' coverage unit from controlling obvious passing situations.
Who handles Kittle after the catch?
The first defender must finish the tackle. Kittle can turn a routine completion into a touchdown, and Seattle cannot allow the explosive plays that Denver conceded late.
Which team protects the football?
Seattle forced four turnovers against the Chargers but committed one on its own first offensive snap. San Francisco has only one Purdy interception all season. A single short field could decide a matchup this balanced.
San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks head-to-head
Seattle won the final two meetings of the 2025 season. A 13-3 victory in Week 18 secured the division and the NFC's top seed, then the Seahawks overwhelmed the 49ers 41-6 in the divisional round two weeks later.
The playoff result remains relevant because the quarterbacks and head coaches return, but San Francisco's current offense is healthier and more explosive. Purdy was 6-2 against Seattle before that defeat and had won each of his first four starts on the road in the series.
This game should be a better measure of the current teams. Seattle has the recent wins. San Francisco arrives unbeaten.
What could move San Francisco 49ers vs Seattle Seahawks odds?
Williams' ankle is the most important Seattle variable because he anchors the interior rush and run defense. Charbonnet's availability would affect the backfield rotation, while Okada's status could change the safety packages behind Emmanwori and Love.
For San Francisco, the defensive injury list is longer. Bosa's availability would materially change the matchup with Seattle's tackles, while the absences of Sigle and Juszczyk affect different parts of the game plan. Clarity on Stout would help define the secondary rotation.
