New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams prediction and odds

Los Angeles is a clear 75% favorite in prediction markets, with New York at 26% despite the Giants opening the season with a convincing win. The Rams still have the stronger overall case, but Myles Garrett's absence and Jaxson Dart's fast start give New York a credible route into the game.

New York heads west at 1-0 after Jaxson Dart opened his second season with an efficient three-touchdown performance, while Los Angeles returns home looking to recover from a 27-7 loss to San Francisco in Australia. The Rams remain strong favorites, but their defensive-front uncertainty and the Giants' ability to stay on schedule offensively make this more interesting than the market gap alone suggests.

New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams prediction

Los Angeles' 75% market position asks the Rams to be judged more on their established offensive ceiling and broader roster strength than on one ugly opener. Matthew Stafford threw for only 155 yards with an interception against San Francisco, and Los Angeles scored once, but Sean McVay still has Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Kyren Williams and Blake Corum around an offense that was among the league's most dangerous last season.

The concern is that the Rams' defensive front will look different in Week 2. Myles Garrett is set to undergo knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve after playing through the issue in Australia. Sean McVay also said Monday that the team had not yet decided whether Aaron Donald would play against New York. That creates a meaningful question against a Giants offense that was able to stay balanced and efficient against Dallas.

Dart was excellent in the opener, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 54 rushing yards. New York also ran for 165 yards as a team and converted nine of its first 10 third-down opportunities before the final kneeldown. That kind of down-to-down efficiency is difficult to repeat, but it matters because it gives John Harbaugh a clear formula for keeping Stafford off the field.

The Giants also have multiple answers in the passing game. Malik Nabers returned from last year's knee injury with six catches for 69 yards, while Isaiah Likely caught eight passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns in his New York debut. If the Rams cannot generate consistent pressure without Garrett, Dart should have enough underneath and intermediate options to avoid turning the game into a series of obvious passing downs.

Los Angeles still deserves favorite status. The Rams have the more proven quarterback, a deeper group of established offensive playmakers and extra recovery time after opening the season on September 10. But a 75-26 market split leaves a clear point of tension: New York has already shown it can run the ball, protect possession and get efficient quarterback play, while Los Angeles has to prove that its Week 1 offensive problems were temporary.

Market data as of September 16, 2026.

The market makes Los Angeles a strong favorite despite the Rams' Week 1 defeat. Stafford's track record, the Rams' offensive talent and their longer recovery window support that position, but Garrett's absence and the Giants' balanced opening performance create enough uncertainty to keep the matchup from being purely about recent team reputation.

New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams game outlook

New York's best game script starts with Cam Skattebo and Dart keeping the offense ahead of the chains. Skattebo carried 18 times for 81 yards and a touchdown against Dallas, while Dart's mobility added another layer to the run game. The Giants do not need to ask their quarterback to create explosive plays on every possession if they can force Los Angeles to defend the run honestly.

That balance also helps neutralize whatever pressure plan the Rams build without Garrett. If Dart is consistently operating from second-and-medium rather than third-and-long, Harbaugh can keep play action, movement throws and Likely's middle-of-the-field routes available. Nabers then becomes the player Los Angeles has to account for outside without allowing the rest of the structure to loosen.

The Rams' cleanest response is to make the Giants chase the game. Stafford was not sacked against San Francisco, even though Los Angeles struggled to turn that protection into points. Puka Nacua still produced five catches for 74 yards, including a 41-yard gain, while Williams and Corum combined for 95 rushing yards on 21 carries.

That suggests the underlying offensive structure was not entirely broken. Los Angeles moved the ball at times but failed to finish drives, including a fourth-and-goal stop at the one. Against New York, a better red-zone performance could quickly change the game state and force Dart into a much more aggressive passing role.

The Giants' defense should also be more difficult to run through than it was a year ago. New York held Dallas to 69 rushing yards on 18 attempts in Week 1 and limited Dak Prescott to 175 passing yards. If that front can again control early downs, Stafford will have to win more possessions through third-down passing rather than allowing McVay to stay fully balanced.

Team news and injuries

New York Giants

Jaxson Dart enters Week 2 after completing 79.3% of his passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions against Dallas. His quick decision-making was especially encouraging after a rookie season in which many of his best moments came outside structure.

Malik Nabers also successfully returned from the knee injury that ended his 2025 season. He practiced fully throughout Week 1, was listed as questionable, then played and caught six passes for 69 yards. How his knee responds to the first full game workload remains important because he changes how Los Angeles can allocate coverage.

New York's offensive line entered the opener with Andrew Thomas available, and the unit helped the Giants produce 165 rushing yards. The defense also came through the game without a major new injury, with cornerback Greg Newsome II evaluated for a concussion and cleared to return.

Los Angeles Rams

The most significant development is Myles Garrett's knee. McVay confirmed that Garrett will undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games. Garrett played 62% of the defensive snaps against San Francisco but acknowledged afterward that the knee prevented him from playing at his usual level.

Aaron Donald's status is another major variable. Donald did not make the Australia trip, and McVay said Monday that the Rams had not yet decided whether he would play against the Giants. His availability would materially affect how Los Angeles replaces Garrett's pass-rush presence.

Safety Kam Curl returned after an ankle issue in Week 1 and was described by McVay as good to go, while linebacker Nate Landman is expected to be available after shoulder and thumb issues. Tight end Davis Allen returned after being evaluated for a concussion, and linebacker Omar Speights was making positive progress from a hip pointer.

Key factors that could decide New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams

Can the Rams pressure Jaxson Dart without Myles Garrett?

This is the clearest matchup question. Dart was comfortable against Dallas because New York stayed on schedule and gave him defined answers underneath. Garrett's absence removes Los Angeles' most disruptive edge defender, so the Rams need another source of pressure if they are going to force Dart into hurried throws and longer third downs.

Can the Giants keep Stafford from finding Puka Nacua downfield?

Stafford's Week 1 numbers were poor, but Nacua still produced Los Angeles' biggest passing play on a 41-yard reception. New York limited Dallas' passing game well in its opener, yet Stafford and McVay can punish overaggressive coverage if the Giants commit too many bodies to the run or pressure.

Can New York repeat its third-down efficiency?

The Giants converted nine of their first 10 third-down opportunities against Dallas, an extraordinary rate that is unlikely to remain that high. The important question is whether the underlying process carries over: strong early-down rushing, Dart getting the ball out quickly and Likely working the middle of the field. If New York keeps third downs manageable, it can shorten the game and reduce Los Angeles' possession advantage.

New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams head-to-head

The most recent meeting came late in the 2023 season, when Los Angeles won 26-25. That game has limited predictive value now because both teams have changed considerably at quarterback, coaching staff and across multiple position groups.

For this matchup, current personnel matters far more than the historical series. The Giants now have Harbaugh and Dart running a different offense, while the Rams' immediate concern is how their defensive front functions without Garrett and with Donald's status still uncertain.

What could move New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams odds before kickoff?

Aaron Donald's availability is the largest live variable for Los Angeles. If he returns, the Rams regain an interior defender capable of changing protection plans even without Garrett. If he remains out, New York should have a clearer path to keeping Dart comfortable.

Nabers' practice workload will also matter after his first game back from a major knee injury. Any limitation would reduce New York's ability to threaten Los Angeles outside and place more responsibility on Likely and the running game.

The Rams' remaining defensive injury updates, particularly around Speights and the front seven, could also change how aggressively Los Angeles can play against the run. For New York, any late offensive-line issue would be significant because the Giants' upset route depends heavily on staying efficient on early downs and avoiding obvious passing situations.
