Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction, team news and lineups
Manchester United are 58% favorites against Tottenham Hotspur, but fitness doubts complicate their attempt to exploit the visitors' difficult start under Roberto De Zerbi.

Manchester United enter the weekend with five points from five Premier League matches, having needed Matheus Cunha's late equalizer to draw 1–1 at Fulham. Michael Carrick's side have enough attacking options to create opportunities, but neither their finishing nor their control of matches has been reliable.
Tottenham's position is worse. They are bottom with two points and have failed to score in four of their five league fixtures. Their 3–2 defeat to Aston Villa finally ended the scoring drought, but both goals arrived after they had fallen three behind. The immediate question is whether Spurs can turn possession into an effective attack before defensive problems dictate the game.

The preference for United is easier to understand through Tottenham's problems than through the hosts' results. Spurs have struggled to turn their buildup into goals, while United can threaten through Bryan Mbeumo's movement, Bruno Fernandes' passing and Cunha's ability to carry the ball into shooting positions.
That does not make United a settled side. They managed only three shots on target in the league defeat to Manchester City despite playing against 10 men for much of the match. At Fulham, a much larger total of 29 shots still produced just one goal. The contrast points to a team whose attacking volume and attacking effectiveness are not consistently aligned.
Tottenham's best route into the contest is to draw United forward and find a pass through the first line of pressure. If Sandro Tonali and Rodrigo Bentancur can connect with the attacking midfielders, the visitors can make United's defenders turn toward their own goal rather than continually defend in front of them.
The biggest uncertainty is how close Carrick can get to his preferred attacking and midfield combinations after the international break. The market's clear home preference is easier to sustain if United have their regular creators available and enough midfield mobility to prevent Tottenham from playing through them.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction
Manchester United win — 58%
Draw — 23%
Tottenham Hotspur win — 22%
United are clear favorites, but the market barely separates the draw from a Spurs victory. That leaves room for two different challenges to the home price: a game in which neither attack functions convincingly, or one in which Tottenham finally turn their possession into sustained danger.
Manchester United team news
Carrick's recent league structure has been a 4-2-3-1, with Cunha ahead of Fernandes and Mbeumo operating from the right. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo withdrew from England duty with fitness problems, while Fernandes has also been managing an issue. All three remain subject to assessment rather than being treated as confirmed absentees.
Benjamin Šeško's shin problem and concerns over Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui complicate the options at striker and fullback. Luke Shaw started the last league match at left back, while Diogo Dalot remains the projected choice on the right.
Carlos Baleba has taken a step toward his competitive debut by featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly. His inclusion would offer another way to add ball-winning and movement to the midfield, but match readiness still matters. Youri Tielemans and Mainoo have been the established league pairing.
Amad's potential return would increase the options on the right, and Matthijs de Ligt's recovery is another selection variable. Neither needs to be placed straight into the starting XI simply because a return to the squad is possible.
Tottenham Hotspur team news
De Zerbi has used a 4-2-3-1, with Antonín Kinský in goal and Dominic Solanke at striker. Mateus Fernandes started behind Solanke against Villa, with Mohammed Kudus introduced at halftime. That is a genuine choice between midfield control and a more direct attacking presence, rather than an automatic restoration of a familiar name.
Pedro Porro's hamstring injury makes Archie Gray the projected right back. Gray replaced him during the Villa match and has recent experience in the role.
Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke both require checks after problems on Netherlands duty. The latest reports offer encouragement over their availability, but neither should be described as medically cleared before the club confirms it. Their inclusion below assumes they recover in time.
Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain long-term absentees, while Mykhailo Mudryk's ankle injury limits the wide options. Dejan Kulusevski's return to training does not yet make him an established starting option after his lengthy layoff.
Manchester United lineup
Manchester United are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1:
Goalkeeper: Senne Lammens
Right back: Diogo Dalot
Right center back: Harry Maguire
Left center back: Lisandro Martínez
Left back: Luke Shaw
Right holding midfield: Youri Tielemans
Left holding midfield: Kobbie Mainoo
Right wing: Bryan Mbeumo
No. 10: Bruno Fernandes
Left wing: Marcus Rashford
Striker: Matheus Cunha
This projection assumes Mainoo, Fernandes and Rashford are passed fit. Their availability is central to the selection, rather than a minor qualification.
Tottenham Hotspur lineup
Tottenham Hotspur are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1:
Goalkeeper: Antonín Kinský
Right back: Archie Gray
Right center back: Jan Paul van Hecke
Left center back: Micky van de Ven
Left back: Andrew Robertson
Right holding midfield: Rodrigo Bentancur
Left holding midfield: Sandro Tonali
Right wing: Sávio
No. 10: Mateus Fernandes
Left wing: Omar Marmoush
Striker: Dominic Solanke
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur key matchup factors
Can United turn pressure into better chances?
The City and Fulham matches exposed different attacking shortcomings. United need combinations that move defenders before the final pass, particularly when Cunha comes short. Runs beyond him from the wings can stop Tottenham's center backs simply stepping forward to compress the pitch.
Can Tottenham play through United's first press?
De Zerbi's buildup asks defenders and midfielders to receive with opponents nearby. Successful combinations can release the front four against a retreating defense. Failed ones can give Fernandes or Mbeumo possession before Spurs have time to restore their shape. United must press together rather than send one player chasing alone.
How does Gray change the right-side matchup?
With Porro expected to miss out, Tottenham lose a familiar source of attacking delivery from right back. Gray's positioning alongside Sávio will help determine whether that flank can advance safely. United can test the same channel with Rashford's runs, assuming the forward is fit.
Can Tottenham keep Solanke connected to the midfield?
Spurs need more than possession around the penalty area. Solanke requires timely support when he checks toward the ball and runners who occupy defenders when he attacks a cross. Leaving him to contest the final pass alone would allow United to defend with spare players and limit the usefulness of Tottenham's buildup.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur head-to-head
United won the most recent league meeting 2–0 at home in February, following a 2–2 draw at Tottenham in November 2025. Spurs had previously beaten United 1–0 in the 2025 Europa League final.
That recent history contains contrasting outcomes, but the current selection problems and Tottenham's adaptation under De Zerbi are more relevant than treating any one result as a template.
What could move Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur market price before kickoff?
The most consequential updates concern Mainoo, Fernandes and Rashford, followed by whether Baleba and Amad are ready to contribute meaningful minutes. A squad return and a starting place would carry different implications.
Tottenham's center-back assessments could change the defensive outlook substantially. De Zerbi's choice behind Solanke also matters: another midfielder would support control, while a more attacking selection would ask greater defensive discipline from the double pivot.
