Everton vs Ipswich prediction

Everton and Ipswich both have six points after four Premier League matches, but they have taken very different routes there.

David Moyes' side are unbeaten, with five goals scored and three conceded. Ipswich have won twice and lost twice, scoring seven while allowing 10.

That contrast defines the matchup. Everton have been controlled and difficult to beat. Ipswich have been far more volatile, following heavy defeats against Manchester United and Liverpool with a 3-2 win at Crystal Palace.

Both teams also play in the EFL Cup before Saturday. Ipswich face Arsenal on Tuesday and Everton meet Wolves on Wednesday, putting rotation and recovery into the equation.

Everton's position is supported by more than home advantage. They remain unbeaten, have conceded only three times and followed a late recovery against Manchester United with a clean sheet at Tottenham. Moyes has established a dependable defensive structure.

The 55% price still leaves room for doubt. Everton have drawn three of four league games, and the attack did not create enough sustained pressure in the 0-0 draw with Tottenham. Thierno Barry is the only established senior striker after Beto's departure.

Ipswich responded to conceding seven goals across two defeats by winning 3-2 at Crystal Palace. Palace played with 10 men from the 34th minute, an important qualification, but Ipswich still showed ambition after being pegged back late.

Davis' forward runs, Enciso's movement and the speed around the striker give Everton a different challenge from Tottenham's slower possession game. Ipswich have conceded in every league match, however, and their aggressive positioning can expose the center-backs when the press is broken.

The market therefore separates the teams on control rather than attacking potential. Everton have provided the steadier evidence. Ipswich bring greater scoring volatility, with both the reward and the risk that comes with it.

Everton vs Ipswich odds

  • Everton win — 55%
  • Draw — 25%
  • Ipswich win — 21%

Everton hold a clear advantage, but this is not mismatch pricing. The draw sits only four points above the away win, so the market gives Ipswich almost as much chance of taking the game outright as leaving with one point.

Everton's unbeaten start supports the favorite, while three draws prevent the gap becoming overwhelming. Ipswich's defensive record weakens the away case, but two wins and seven goals make 21% meaningful.

Everton team news

Christian Nørgaard remains Everton's clearest confirmed absentee. Moyes said before the Tottenham game that the midfielder's muscle injury had kept him out longer than expected, and current availability information points toward a return in October.

Merlin Röhl also missed the Tottenham squad with a minor problem. James Garner anchored midfield behind Harrison Armstrong and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in his absence.

Jack Grealish returned on loan and was fit enough for the bench against Tottenham. Moyes must decide whether to start him or retain the direct running and defensive work of Tyrique George and Brennan Johnson. Grealish may be particularly useful against a defense that can be moved by patient combinations.

Barry remains the focal point after Beto was sold without a direct replacement. The likely system is a 4-1-4-1, becoming a compact 4-5-1 without the ball.

Ipswich team news

Emersonn scored against Palace but is now doubtful with a muscle problem. Zian Flemming replaced him after 63 minutes and scored the late winner, giving O'Neil an obvious alternative at striker.

Jack Taylor is expected to remain out with a knee injury. Azor Matusiwa is also doubtful, although Sasa Lukić and Exequiel Palacios formed the double pivot at Palace and should remain available to continue together.

O'Neil used a 4-2-3-1 in the win, with Abdul Fatawu and Jack Clarke either side of Enciso. Davis supplies another runner from left-back. That ambition can leave Palacios and Lukić covering too much ground after turnovers.

The Tuesday cup tie against Arsenal may influence the final selection, particularly after an emotionally demanding win at Palace.

Everton vs Ipswich key matchup factors

Can Ipswich play through Everton's compact midfield?

Everton's 4-1-4-1 puts three central midfielders close enough to close passing lanes and contest second balls. Garner protects the back four while Armstrong and Dewsbury-Hall step toward Palacios and Lukić.

Enciso is Ipswich's solution between those lines. If he receives behind Everton's midfield, Davis and the wingers can attack the spaces created around him. Deny those passes and Ipswich may be forced into riskier buildup.

Will Grealish change Everton's chance creation?

Everton's best work against Tottenham came through isolated moments rather than sustained combinations. Grealish can slow an attack, draw defenders and create a better angle for an overlapping full-back or central runner.

There is a tradeoff. George and Johnson offer more direct speed and defensive coverage. Grealish could improve Everton against a set defense, but change the balance of a side that has been difficult to play through.

Can Davis expose Everton's right side?

Davis scored at Palace and repeatedly reached advanced positions. O'Neil also highlighted similar opportunities against Liverpool. His overlap with Clarke is one of Ipswich's most reliable patterns.

Maitland-Niles will need support from Everton's right winger. If that player is slow to recover, Ipswich can create a two-against-one. The danger comes after turnovers, when Davis' forward position leaves space behind him.

Which side handles the midweek cup schedule better?

Ipswich play Arsenal on Tuesday, giving them an additional recovery day. Everton face Wolves on Wednesday and have less time before Saturday afternoon.

Heavy minutes for Barry, Garner, Enciso or Davis would matter more than either cup result. The ties may also settle Grealish's readiness to start and Emersonn's fitness.

Everton vs Ipswich head-to-head

The teams met twice during Ipswich's previous Premier League season. Everton won 2-0 away in October 2024, before Ipswich recovered from two down to earn a 2-2 draw at Everton in May 2025.

Everton's energy and composure dropped after building that lead, and Ipswich punished them through Enciso and George Hirst.

Ipswich now have a different manager and a heavily rebuilt squad, while Everton have added options across midfield and attack, so make of them what you will.

What could move Everton vs Ipswich odds before kickoff?

The cup ties are the immediate market-moving events. Everton's Wednesday game leaves the shorter recovery window, and any fresh injury to a first-choice player would carry extra weight.

Grealish's minutes against Wolves should indicate whether he is ready for a first league start. Updates on Nørgaard and Röhl could change Everton's midfield options.

For Ipswich, Emersonn's fitness is the key update. His return would restore the front four used at Palace; another absence would strengthen Flemming's case. The minutes given to Enciso and Davis against Arsenal will also matter.
