Crystal Palace vs Newcastle prediction and lineups
Prediction markets make Newcastle 42% favorites at Palace, but their struggling attack still has to exploit Palace's defensive problems exposed by Brighton.

Palace conceded three times inside ten minutes on their way to a 5–0 defeat at Brighton.
Newcastle arrive after successive losses to Coventry and Aston Villa, with their latest performance producing just one shot on target. Neither side brings convincing recent evidence, and both managers are under pressure.
The difference is preparation. Newcastle have a clear training week; Palace must first travel to Beşiktaş in the Europa League.
Pierre Sage also has Axel Disasi available again domestically and Jean-Philippe Mateta back in the attacking competition. Those changes make the response to Brighton more interesting than the scoreline alone.

This is a narrow away edge, with Palace's win probability above the draw.
Newcastle's position has a clear football case: the hosts' defense has conceded 17 league goals, while the visitors have more time to prepare and attacking players capable of exploiting space behind advancing wingbacks.
But Newcastle have to use that space properly. Their 0–1 defeat to Villa exposed limited service to the forwards and a chaotic press. Palace's defensive problems do not automatically turn Newcastle into a fluent attack.
There is a credible home route through Adam Wharton's passing, the movement of Yéremy Pino and Ismaïla Sarr, and the penalty-area presence available from Jørgen Strand Larsen or Mateta. Newcastle's fullbacks cannot both advance without protection if Palace are able to release those players quickly.
The largest live uncertainty is the Palace team that emerges from Thursday's European trip. Disasi's return can change the back three, while Mateta's minutes could clarify whether he is ready to start.
Sage remains under pressure, which also makes a more conservative defensive approach plausible. The market's small gap leaves room for those decisions to change the balance.
Crystal Palace vs Newcastle odds
Newcastle win – 42%
Draw – 27%
Crystal Palace win – 33%
Newcastle lead Palace by nine percentage points. That is an advantage, but it leaves a competitive contest in which the home win remains a substantial outcome.
The draw is the lowest-priced result despite both teams' difficulties. The clearest tension is whether Palace's defensive vulnerability produces chances for Newcastle, or Newcastle's own lack of attacking cohesion allows the hosts to regain some stability.
Crystal Palace team news
Sage has used a 3-4-2-1 in Palace's recent European and league selections. Wharton and Quinten Timber provide the central midfield base, with Anan Khalaili and Tyrick Mitchell supplying width. Pino has started alongside Sarr or Daichi Kamada behind Strand Larsen.
Disasi is available after completing his domestic suspension. He started at Lyon before missing Brighton, so his return gives Sage an established alternative to the Chris Richards–Jaydee Canvot–Honest Ahanor combination used on Sunday. Chadi Riad remains out, with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Dean Henderson still fitness questions.
Mateta returned from the bench at Brighton and hit the crossbar. It was his first appearance in two months; Strand Larsen remains the recent starter.
Their European minutes will help define that competition. Sarr's direct running offers a different option to Kamada's combinations, while Walter Benítez remains the incumbent goalkeeper during Henderson's absence.
Newcastle team news
Matthias Jaissle's recent 4-2-3-1 has required Lewis Miley at right back, leaving the midfield combination dependent on who is available elsewhere.
Amar Dedić played from the bench at Coventry and was an unused substitute against Villa as his return from a hamstring problem continued. A start could allow Miley to move alongside Nico González, but Joelinton started in that role against Villa after returning from injury.
Jaissle's latest detailed fitness update described Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey as working toward partial training, with Tino Livramento also being managed cautiously. Bazoumana Touré, meanwhile, appeared against Villa after his Coventry injury concern.
The attacking choice is genuine. Yoane Wissa moved from the No. 10 role to striker against Villa, with Joe Willock behind him; William Osula replaced Willock after 56 minutes.
Starting Osula would provide another central target and allow Wissa to operate off him.
However, there is pressure mounting on Jaissle's tactical setup, so it would be unwise to discount a change in structure.
Crystal Palace lineup
Crystal Palace are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1, with Mateta's workload and Henderson's fitness still relevant to selection:
Goalkeeper: Walter Benítez
Right center back: Chris Richards
Central center back: Axel Disasi
Left center back: Jaydee Canvot
Right wingback: Anan Khalaili
Right central midfield: Quinten Timber
Left central midfield: Adam Wharton
Left wingback: Tyrick Mitchell
Right attacking midfield: Ismaïla Sarr
Left attacking midfield: Yéremy Pino
Striker: Jørgen Strand Larsen
Newcastle lineup
If Jaissle sticks to his sytem, Newcastle are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1, provided Dedić is ready to start after his hamstring return:
Can Barnes and Hall make Palace defend their right flank?
Barnes moving inside and Hall advancing outside him can force Khalaili and Palace's right-sided center back to make difficult choices. Following Barnes creates room for Hall; staying wide can leave the winger receiving closer to goal.
Newcastle need to turn that advantage into a useful delivery. Repeated crosses into a set back three would let Palace defend the same situation. Earlier passes, cutbacks and Wissa arriving around Osula offer different problems.
Can Wharton release Palace's attackers before Newcastle reset?
Wharton's first pass after possession changes hands is a potential route around Newcastle's pressure. Pino and Sarr can receive either side of the midfield, while Strand Larsen provides an outlet with his back to goal.
If Dedić and Hall have advanced, Miley and González need to protect the central route and help cover the channels. Newcastle also need pressure on the passer. Retreating center backs cannot solve every attack once Palace's runners are already moving toward them.
Would Osula give Newcastle a clearer penalty-area target?
At Coventry, González released Fernandez-Pardo through the middle, only for a defender to clear his shot. Newcastle have produced openings, but the Villa performance showed how easily the supply can disappear.
Osula occupying the central defenders could give Wissa room to receive nearby and Barnes a target for a low delivery. The trade-off is losing a midfield or attacking-midfield option. That extra forward only helps if Newcastle can progress the ball and keep supporting him.
How much can Disasi and the European turnaround change Palace?
Disasi's availability lets Sage change the defense without relying solely on the young players who endured Brighton. It does not repair the team's distances or stop opponents finding an unmarked runner by itself.
Thursday adds another selection test. Palace's pressing and wingback roles demand repeated running, while Newcastle can prepare all week. Sage must decide who can reproduce those efforts on Sunday and whether a deeper starting position would offer his defenders more protection.
Crystal Palace vs Newcastle head-to-head
The teams split last season's league meetings. Newcastle won 2–0 at home on January 4, before Palace won 2–1 on April 12, when Mateta scored twice after coming off the bench to overturn Osula's opener.
Both clubs have since changed head coach and substantial parts of their squads.
What could move Crystal Palace vs Newcastle odds before kickoff?
Palace's European match is the first major checkpoint: new injuries, defensive changes and Mateta's workload can all alter the available team.
Henderson's assessment and Disasi's reintegration also affect the defensive selection.
For Newcastle, Dedić's readiness has consequences beyond right back because it could release Miley into midfield, though he would compete with Joelinton and Steur for a place next to Nico González.
Jaissle's choice between Osula, Wissa and Willock will show how he intends to change the attacking structure.
Any confirmed progress for Elanga, Ramsey or Livramento needs to be assessed for realistic match readiness, with the final XIs providing the clearest update to the current market picture.
