Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Navy Midshipmen prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Fighting Irish 98%; Midshipmen 3%.
What to watch: Navy's rushing attack against Notre Dame's run defense.
Notre Dame allows 67 rushing yards per game, third best, while Navy runs for 308, also third. The Midshipmen's defense gives up 29.1 points per game and the Irish score 41.1, so Notre Dame can win a race without needing a stop on every series. We favor Notre Dame. Navy has to turn Jackson Gutierrez's ground-based drives into long possessions that keep the Irish offense on the sideline.
Arizona Wildcats vs Texas Tech Red Raiders prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Wildcats 41%; Red Raiders 62%.
What to watch: Noah Fifita against Texas Tech's interception-heavy secondary.
Noah Fifita threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns in Arizona's last game, and the Wildcats have 23 sacks. Texas Tech has 13 interceptions, second most in the country, which tests a quarterback whose line has allowed 17 sacks. We give Texas Tech a slight edge. Arizona's path to an upset runs through its pass rush forcing Will Hammond into the kind of turnover he had at Cincinnati.
SMU Mustangs vs Syracuse Orange prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Mustangs 76%; Orange 26%.
What to watch: Kevin Jennings and SMU's protection.
Kevin Jennings threw three touchdowns on 16 completions in SMU's 59-20 win over California, and the Mustangs have allowed only eight sacks. That protection meets a Syracuse defense giving up 26.3 points per game. SMU gets our pick. Syracuse needs Steve Angeli to repeat the 256 yards he produced against North Carolina and keep the game within one score late.
Wisconsin Badgers vs Iowa Hawkeyes prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 12:00 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Badgers 39%; Hawkeyes 61%.
What to watch: Hank Brown's ball security for Iowa.
Hank Brown threw two interceptions in Iowa's 10-13 loss at Minnesota, a setback for an offense scoring 28.0 points per game. Wisconsin's defense allows 15.3 points per game, and Colton Joseph completed 12 of 14 passes against USC. We see a closer game than the prices suggest. Iowa has to let its run defense, which gives up 83 yards per game, force Wisconsin into more throws than it wants.
Auburn Tigers vs Ole Miss Rebels prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 12:45 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Tigers 19%; Rebels 82%.
What to watch: Auburn's protection for Byrum Brown.
Auburn has allowed 30 sacks, which ranks 136th nationally, and Byrum Brown now faces an Ole Miss offense that has given up only five. The Rebels carry their own flaw: Trinidad Chambliss threw three interceptions at Texas. We lean Ole Miss. Auburn's route to an upset runs through giving Brown time to throw and turning Chambliss's mistakes into short fields.
Florida Gators vs Georgia Bulldogs prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Gators 22%; Bulldogs 79%.
What to watch: Florida's starting quarterback decision.
Florida has not named a starter, with Aaron Philo, who missed the Texas game with a shoulder injury, and Tramell Jones Jr., who started the upset of the Longhorns, both available. Either one faces a Georgia defense allowing 15.9 points per game. Florida's defense gives up 28.3 against a Bulldogs offense scoring 43.0. We are withholding a firm pick until Florida settles its quarterback. Florida needs to match Georgia's pace on offense because its defense ranks 106th in points allowed.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Indiana Hoosiers prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Golden Gophers 9%; Hoosiers 92%.
What to watch: Indiana's pass rush against Drake Lindsey.
Minnesota runs for 100 yards per game, tied for 132nd, and Drake Lindsey threw for 137 yards in the win over Iowa. Indiana's defense, with 28 sacks and a run defense allowing 73 yards per game, is built to shut that offense down. We favor Indiana. Minnesota needs its defense to keep Josh Hoover, who threw for 81 yards at Michigan, from finding any rhythm.
Arizona State Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Sun Devils 15%; Cougars 87%.
What to watch: Bear Bachmeier against Arizona State's secondary.
Bear Bachmeier threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns in BYU's 31-39 loss at UCF, and the Cougars have been sacked just four times. Arizona State has allowed 19 sacks, but BYU's own pass rush, tied for 98th, does not threaten to exploit that. We give BYU the edge. For Arizona State to pull the upset, Mikey Keene has to turn the offense that beat Kansas State into long drives.
Northwestern Wildcats vs Oregon Ducks prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Wildcats 39%; Ducks 61%.
What to watch: Northwestern's run game against Oregon's defense.
Dylan Raiola completed 27 of 41 passes for 246 yards without a touchdown in Oregon's 10-21 loss at Illinois. Northwestern allows 16.6 points per game and has eight interceptions, a defense suited to an Oregon offense that went without a passing score last time out. We lean Northwestern. Oregon needs Raiola to turn volume into touchdowns and make Aidan Chiles, who threw three scores against Rutgers, play from behind.
Utah Utes vs Cincinnati Bearcats prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 3:45 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Utes 69%; Bearcats 31%.
What to watch: Cincinnati's run game against Utah's defense.
Devon Dampier threw two interceptions in Utah's 21-13 win over Houston, the lone blemish for a 7-0 team. Cincinnati runs for 235 yards per game, eighth best, while Utah allows 88 on the ground. Utah gets our pick. Cincinnati needs JC French IV to repeat the four touchdown passes he threw against Texas Tech and protect the ball better than he did in that game.
Virginia Cavaliers vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 3:45 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Cavaliers 18%; Demon Deacons 84%.
What to watch: Virginia's protection for Beau Pribula.
Virginia has allowed 26 sacks, 134th nationally, and Beau Pribula threw an interception in the 16-19 loss to Duke. Wake Forest comes off an open week with an offense scoring 37.4 points per game and a run defense allowing 92 yards. We favor Wake Forest. For Virginia to pull the upset, its secondary, with eight interceptions, has to create the short fields its protection problems rule out.
Nevada Wolf Pack vs UCLA Bruins prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 4:15 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Wolf Pack 7%; Bruins 94%.
What to watch: UCLA's secondary against Nevada's Luke Duncan.
UCLA has 12 interceptions, tied for third nationally, and Ty Dieffenbach went without an interception against Michigan State. Nevada's Luke Duncan threw two touchdowns in the win over San Jose State, but the Wolf Pack defense has just one interception. We favor UCLA. Nevada has to match the 233 rushing yards per game the Bruins produce with sustained drives that keep their run game on the sideline.
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs Iowa State Cyclones prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Cowboys 76%; Cyclones 26%.
What to watch: Drew Mestemaker against Iowa State's pass defense.
Drew Mestemaker threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns in Oklahoma State's 57-24 win over Colorado. Iowa State has 10 sacks and two interceptions, so the Cyclones offer little pressure against an offense gaining 529 yards per game. We lean Oklahoma State. Iowa State needs Connor Moberly, who managed 63 yards in the 3-39 loss at Arizona, to move the ball enough to keep Mestemaker on the sideline.
Miami Hurricanes vs North Carolina Tar Heels prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Hurricanes 86%; Tar Heels 15%.
What to watch: Darian Mensah against North Carolina's defense.
Darian Mensah completed 31 of 37 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns in Miami's 52-23 win over Pittsburgh. North Carolina ranks 118th in rushing at 114 yards per game, while Miami allows 60, best in the country, so the Tar Heels have to throw. We favor Miami. North Carolina needs Billy Edwards Jr. to stay turnover-free, as he did in a 271-yard game against Syracuse, and sustain long drives.
Ohio State Buckeyes vs USC Trojans prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Buckeyes 72%; Trojans 30%.
What to watch: Ohio State's quarterback situation after Julian Sayin's injury.
Ohio State is preparing Luke Fahey and Tavien St. Clair after Julian Sayin's shoulder injury, which Ryan Day said would keep him out several weeks. That puts pressure on a Buckeyes offense scoring 39.3 points per game against a USC defense giving up 25.0. We give Ohio State a narrow edge. USC needs Jayden Maiava to avoid the interceptions that sank the loss at Wisconsin and test an unsettled Ohio State passing game.
Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Texas Longhorns prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Bulldogs 10%; Longhorns 92%.
What to watch: Mississippi State's protection for Parker Puckett.
Mississippi State has allowed 21 sacks, tied for 124th, while Texas has 19 of its own, tied for 25th. That mismatch puts Parker Puckett under pressure, and Arch Manning threw two interceptions in the win over Ole Miss. Texas gets our pick. Mississippi State needs Puckett to survive the pass rush and Manning's mistakes to become short fields after a 15-23 loss to Oklahoma.
Missouri Tigers vs Arkansas Razorbacks prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 7:45 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Tigers 77%; Razorbacks 24%.
What to watch: Arkansas' offense against Missouri's defense.
Missouri has been sacked only eight times, tied for 20th fewest, and faces an Arkansas pass rush with 10 sacks, tied for 110th. Arkansas ranks tied for 114th in scoring and 122nd in rushing, so the Razorbacks have few ways to move the ball against Missouri's defense. We favor Missouri. Arkansas has to find a passing game and create a turnover to flip field position.
Texas State Bobcats vs Boise State Broncos prediction
Date: Saturday, October 31.
Kickoff: 10:00 p.m. ET.
OG win probabilities: Bobcats 22%; Broncos 81%.
What to watch: Texas State's run game against Boise State's run defense.
Texas State runs for 272 yards per game, fourth best, but its defense allows 30.0 points per game, which ranks 111th. Boise State rushes for 238 yards and gives up 99 on the ground, so the Broncos can answer in kind. We lean Boise State. For Texas State to pull the upset, Brad Jackson has to add more than the 167 passing yards from the Utah State win to its ground game.
What could change before the Week 9 games?
Florida has not named a starting quarterback between Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr. for Georgia, and Ohio State is preparing Luke Fahey and Tavien St. Clair while Julian Sayin recovers from a shoulder injury. The probabilities above reflect the recorded market snapshot and may change as news develops. Any confirmed kickoff changes will be reflected in the schedule.
