Prediction markets make Brighton 42% favorites, but Brian Brobbey's injury and Sunderland's response to it may shape a competitive away test.

Brighton entered the international break third after beating Arsenal 3-0, a performance driven by aggressive pressure and control of the most important duels. Sunderland have been less stable, although scoring three times at Manchester City showed that their attacking ceiling is higher than their recent results alone suggest.
The problem is availability. Brobbey scored all three of those goals before suffering an apparent hamstring injury on international duty. Sunderland must now replace both his finishing and his ability to occupy center backs against the Premier League's most active press.

Brighton's price is supported by more than their league position. Their 3-0 win over Arsenal showed how difficult it can be to play through Fabian Hürzeler's pressure, and they have allowed opponents fewer passes between defensive actions than any other Premier League team this season.
Sunderland's buildup will have little room for hesitation.
Still, 42% is the price of a favorite rather than a dominant away side. Sunderland have home advantage, physical defenders and enough pace around Enzo Le Fée to attack the space Brighton leave when their press is beaten.
The four-point gap between the away win and Sunderland's 32% also reflects a fixture in which both teams retain credible routes to control.
Brobbey's condition is the largest uncertainty. Wilson Isidor offers movement and arrives after scoring twice on international duty, but he changes the attack.
Sunderland would lose some of the penalty-area force and hold-up play that helped Brobbey trouble Manchester City.
Sunderland vs Brighton odds
Brighton win — 42%
Draw — 28%
Sunderland win — 32%
Brighton have a meaningful edge, but the market does not frame this as a mismatch. Sunderland's home price sits much closer to the favorite than it would if Brighton's form and pressing numbers were the only considerations.
The draw is only four points below a Sunderland win. That makes Brighton's ability to turn pressure into an early lead especially important; sustained territorial control will matter less if the home side can keep the decisive spaces protected.
Sunderland team news
Régis Le Bris has recently used a 4-2-3-1, with Granit Xhaka and Noah Sadiki providing the central platform for Le Fée. Brobbey is the major doubt after leaving the Netherlands' international fixture with an apparent hamstring problem. Isidor is the natural replacement and his international goals strengthen his case to start.
Dan Ballard and Habib Diarra have also been working back from thigh injuries, while Romaine Mundle remains out. Reinildo has completed his suspension and can return at left back. If Ballard is not ready, Omar Alderete can join Kevin Danso centrally, with Nordi Mukiele retaining the right-back role.
The selection question is not simply which striker comes in. Sunderland must decide whether Isidor's running is enough to keep Brighton's back line occupied or whether the attacking midfielders need to play closer to him, potentially leaving Xhaka and Sadiki with more ground to cover.
Brighton team news
Hürzeler's side have been operating in a flexible 4-2-3-1 that becomes more aggressive when the fullbacks advance. Pascal Groß has been central to the early-season attack, contributing both goals and assists while setting the pressing rhythm behind Charalampos Kostoulas.
Kaoru Mitoma is expected to miss the trip with a hamstring injury, and Stefanos Tzimas remains out. Yankuba Minteh's availability requires a late check. Brighton therefore have a decision on the right flank, but there is a strong case for retaining the attacking unit that beat Arsenal, with Diego Gómez and Maxim De Cuyper supporting Groß around Kostoulas.
Lewis Dunk and Jack Hinshelwood may increase the options if cleared, although recent evidence favors the younger center-back pairing of Luka Vušković and Pascal Struijk. Availability does not automatically change that hierarchy.
Brighton have posted the league's lowest passes-per-defensive-action figure, a useful measure of how quickly they engage opponents. Xhaka's passing can help Sunderland escape the first wave, but turnovers around him would expose a back line that has already conceded 10 league goals.
How does Wilson Isidor change Sunderland's attack?
Brobbey gave Sunderland a reference point and punished Manchester City inside the box. Isidor is more inclined to threaten space. That may suit transitions against Brighton, although Sunderland could find it harder to retain direct passes when Hürzeler's press forces them long.
Can Pascal Groß find space around Sunderland's midfield pair?
Groß has been Brighton's most productive connector. If Xhaka and Sadiki step out to meet him, Kostoulas and the wide attackers can run beyond them. If Sunderland stay compact, Brighton may have to create from wider positions instead.
Does Brighton's left side retain enough threat without Mitoma?
De Cuyper offers intelligent movement and delivery but not the same one-on-one profile as Mitoma. Sunderland can defend that flank differently if there is less fear of being beaten from a standing start, which may allow Meunier to begin higher.
Sunderland vs Brighton head-to-head
The sides produced two tight meetings last season. They drew 0-0 at Brighton before Brighton won 1-0 at Sunderland. Those results are more useful as evidence of narrow margins than as a fixed pattern, particularly after both squads changed during the summer.
What could move Sunderland vs Brighton odds before kickoff?
Confirmation of Brobbey's scan result is the clearest market-moving item. Sunderland will also need updates on Ballard, Diarra and Sadiki, while Brighton's price could react to Minteh's availability and any decision involving Dunk or Hinshelwood. The starting striker and Brighton's wide selections will reveal how each coach intends to attack the other's pressure.
