Prediction markets make Seattle 51% favorites, but their 13-game winless MLS run leaves little separation from Real Salt Lake and the draw in a pivotal Western Conference matchup.

Seattle Sounders FC vs Real Salt Lake prediction

That narrow advantage is easier to understand through the different ways these teams have struggled.

Seattle Sounders FC has drawn five consecutive league games, showing enough resilience to remain difficult to beat without turning competitive performances into wins.

Real Salt Lake has lost three straight, failed to score in their last two and now 12 MLS matches without a victory.

Both enter the game on 29 points, although Seattle has played one fewer match. Brian Schmetzer's side also showed more attacking life in Saturday's 3-3 draw with Colorado, where Dejan Joveljić scored his third goal in four appearances and Caden Clark equalized on his club debut.

The question is whether those encouraging moments can overcome an injury-hit squad and a defense that conceded three times.

Seattle's case begins with home advantage and the healthier recent performance trend. Five successive draws are not enough for a side trying to recover a playoff position, but they are materially stronger than Real Salt Lake's sequence of four defeats in five games.

Seattle is also four points below the Western Conference playoff line with two matches in hand on the team currently occupying the final place.

Joveljić changes the attacking picture. The Serbian striker arrived from Sporting Kansas City in August and has scored three times in four appearances, including a powerful finish against Colorado.

Albert Rusnák remains the main creator, while Jordan Morris is again capable of attacking from the left after his own injury interruption.

Still, 51% is restrained favoritism. Seattle has not won an MLS game since May 13, and their injury list removes several of the attackers who would normally provide depth or variation.

Their back line also gave Colorado repeated chances from crosses, rebounds and direct attacks on Saturday.

Real Salt Lake's 26% reflects a side with an available route into the game, not one carrying convincing form.

Sergi Solans has nine league goals and struck the post against Vancouver, while Morgan Guilavogui and Saba Lobjanidze can threaten from wider positions. The problem is converting those moments into sustained pressure without injured playmaker Diego Luna.

Seattle Sounders FC vs Real Salt Lake odds

  • Seattle Sounders FC win — 51%
  • Draw — 25%
  • Real Salt Lake win — 26%

Seattle have a clear but modest edge. The one-point difference between the draw and a Real Salt Lake win captures how little certainty there is beyond the home side's narrow favoritism.

Recent results explain the shape. Seattle has repeatedly found a way back into games, including twice after falling behind against Colorado, but have struggled to sustain control for long enough to collect three points.

Real Salt Lake has been less stable: their 3-0 defeat to Vancouver extended their scoreless run to 194 minutes and their league winless sequence to 12 matches.

Seattle Sounders FC team news

Paul Rothrock is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury. Losing the team's five-goal leading scorer is significant, particularly with Jesús Ferreira also sidelined by a hamstring problem and Pedro de la Vega and Nikola Petković unavailable with longer-term injuries.

Yeimar Gómez Andrade has been managing a calf issue, while Jackson Ragen has only recently returned to the matchday group. Schmetzer therefore used Alex Roldan alongside Stuart Hawkins in central defense at Colorado, with Kalani Kossa-Rienzi and Nouhou Tolo at fullback. That unit could continue unless Yeimar is cleared to start.

The most interesting attacking decision concerns Clark. The former New York Red Bulls and CF Montréal midfielder entered in the 83rd minute of his Seattle debut and scored the stoppage-time equalizer.

Peter Kingston started on the right, while Paul Arriola and Sebastian Gomez were also used from the bench. Clark has the strongest case to enter the XI, although his limited time with the squad makes another substitute role possible.

Joveljić should continue as the striker after scoring three times in four games. Andrew Thomas also remains the current goalkeeping choice ahead of Stefan Frei, having started Seattle's recent league matches.

Real Salt Lake team news

Luna remains the most important absence. His knee injury removes Real Salt Lake's primary connector between midfield and attack, leaving Pablo Mastroeni to distribute the creative work across Lobjanidze, Guilavogui and 19-year-old Aiden Hezarkhani.

The defensive options are also reduced. Justen Glad, Juan José Arias and Lukas Engel are among the players dealing with muscular injuries, while Ariath Piol remains out with an Achilles problem. Mastroeni used DeAndre Yedlin, Kobi Henry, Philip Quinton and Juan Manuel Sanabria as a back four against Vancouver.

Emeka Eneli made his first appearance of 2026 in that defeat after almost 11 months out with a knee injury.

His return improves the midfield depth, but a first start four days later would be an aggressive workload. Stijn Spierings was an unused substitute after an ankle issue, creating a genuine choice around Colin Guske and Noel Çalışkan.

Real Salt Lake face New England three days after this match, so rotation is possible. The latest 4-4-2 remains the safest projection, with Solans supported by Hezarkhani and width supplied by Lobjanidze and Guilavogui.

Seattle Sounders FC vs Real Salt Lake key matchup factors

Can Seattle turn attacking territory into sustained control?

Seattle has started to spend more time in opposing territory as senior players return, but their five-game drawing streak shows the difference between competing and controlling.

The 3-3 at Colorado contained both sides of the problem: three goals and a strong late response, but repeated defensive breakdowns whenever the game became stretched.

Cristian Roldan and Dotson must keep Seattle connected behind Rusnák. If both are pulled toward the ball, Lobjanidze and Guilavogui can attack the spaces outside the center backs. That is Real Salt Lake's clearest way to create chances without dominating possession.

Does Dejan Joveljić expose Real Salt Lake's depleted defense?

Joveljić has quickly become Seattle's most reliable penalty-area threat. His movement between the center backs gives Rusnák and Morris a clear target, while his willingness to shoot from outside the box was rewarded against Colorado.

Real Salt Lake conceded five goals across their last two matches and are missing several established defenders. Henry and Quinton need protection from the midfield pair, particularly when Seattle recover possession high or Rusnák delivers from set pieces. Allowing Joveljić repeated touches inside the box would place too much pressure on Cabral.

Where does Real Salt Lake create without Diego Luna?

Luna normally gives Real Salt Lake someone who can receive between the lines, turn and connect with Solans. Without him, the attack has become more dependent on direct running, crosses and moments from the wide midfielders. The consecutive scoreless games underline the problem.

Solans still provides a credible focal point. He has nine league goals and came close against Vancouver when his second-half effort hit the post. He needs Guilavogui, Lobjanidze or Hezarkhani to arrive close enough that Seattle cannot defend him as an isolated striker.

Has Caden Clark done enough to start?

Clark could hardly have made a stronger first impression. Ten minutes after entering for his debut, he struck from distance to rescue Seattle's fifth consecutive draw. His ability to move inside from the right would also give Kossa-Rienzi room to advance outside him.

The alternative is continuity. Kingston started at Colorado, and Arriola offers greater experience after returning from injury. With only four days between games, Schmetzer must decide whether Clark's immediate impact outweighs his lack of time within Seattle's pressing and defensive structure.

Seattle Sounders vs Real Salt Lake head-to-head

Real Salt Lake hold a narrow historical edge. After the teams' most recent meeting, Seattle's official record stood at 18 wins, 19 defeats and 10 draws across all competitions.

Seattle won that October 2025 game 1-0 through an early Rothrock goal, although Cabral saved a penalty and Real Salt Lake had a late equalizer ruled out. That meeting offers a useful reminder of how little separated the teams, but many of the decisive players are unavailable or have since changed clubs.

The broader current evidence matters more. Both teams are outside the Western Conference playoff positions, level on points and carrying long winless runs. Seattle's game in hand and recent run of draws provide context for the 51% price; the old head-to-head does not settle the matchup.

What could move Seattle Sounders vs Real Salt Lake odds before kickoff?

Seattle's final availability report will matter most in central defense. Confirmation on Yeimar and Ragen could change the projected partnership, while any update on Ferreira would alter the attacking depth. Clark starting rather than appearing from the bench would also raise the amount of one-on-one creativity available around Joveljić.

For Real Salt Lake, Spierings' ankle and Eneli's recovery are the central midfield questions. A return for either would give Mastroeni more experience, although Eneli's recent workload needs careful management. Any unexpected progress for Luna would materially change the creative outlook, while rotation ahead of Saturday's game could affect both the back line and the support around Solans.
