Newcastle United vs Aston Villa prediction and lineups
Prediction markets make Newcastle 42% favorites, but Villa's revived attack poses an awkward test for a defense exposed in successive away defeats.

The visitors arrive with considerably more confidence than their league results alone would suggest.
Villa dismantled Fenerbahçe 6–0 on Wednesday, with Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley scoring twice, while Newcastle are recovering from Monday's embarrassing 4–1 defeat at Coventry.
There is attacking promise on both sides. The question is how much protection sits behind it. Newcastle have regained several senior options, but Matthias Jaissle still has to decide which changes improve the balance.
Fans questioned the use of Willock at No 6, Wissa at No 10 and Fernandez-Pardo at No 9 on Monday night.
Unai Emery faces a different calculation: preserve the combination that flourished in Europe or freshen it up for a second game inside three days.

This is narrow home favoritism. Villa sit only nine percentage points behind Newcastle, and the away win is priced above the draw.
The market leaves substantial room for Emery's side to carry their improving attack into another open game.
Newcastle's case starts with their ability to create openings. González supplied six chances at Coventry. The defeat did not erase his passing range or the threat of Barnes attacking from the left. Villa also showed against Brentford that pressure on their buildup can produce costly errors.
But Newcastle have now lost their last two away league matches 4–1, with the Hull victory between them.
The Leeds defeat included damaging turnovers as well as deflections. Returning home does not remove the need to protect possession and defend the next phase.
Villa's European performance offers a more compelling attacking argument than simply citing Newcastle's weaknesses.
Jackson is finding goals, Manzambi can connect midfield to attack, and Mbaye adds another threat out wide. Still, one emphatic win does not establish that their defensive problems have disappeared.
The biggest uncertainty is the balance of the two midfields. If Newcastle add attacking runners without maintaining cover, Villa have players to exploit the gaps. If Emery prioritizes freshness and defensive work, his European starting XI may change substantially.
Newcastle United vs Aston Villa odds
Newcastle United win – 42%
Draw – 26%
Aston Villa win – 33%
Newcastle hold the highest individual price, but the gap is modest. Villa's away-win price sits seven percentage points above the draw, giving their attacking threat a prominent place in the market.
Both teams have shown enough vulnerability to make control of the game a more useful question than reputation.
Newcastle United team news
Jaissle's Thursday briefing left Elanga, Livramento and Ramsey short of a return. Touré is improving after being withdrawn at Coventry, but his involvement remains uncertain.
Dedić, Joelinton, Burn and Osula all played from the bench on Monday. Burn is unlikely to be ready to start though defensive frailties may demand it; Joelinton is further along, and Jaissle explicitly left open the possibility of selecting him. That creates a real midfield decision, not an automatic restoration.
A 4-2-3-1 has been used all season, to varying degrees of success. If that system is retained, Dedić's return offers a route to moving Miley from right back into midfield alongside González, with Steur and Willock options.
Fernandez-Pardo's start to Premier league life has not been easy, and Osula provides a direct alternative at striker. Bazoumana Touré came on for Murphy late on and could be an option at right-wing with Elanga still out.
There is an argument to add an extra body in midfield, and Joelinton might add extra physicality alongside González and either Miley or Steur. That would then see a choice between Wissa, Osula and Fernandez-Pardo as a loan striker.
Jaissle has publicly backed Fernandez-Pardo's adjustment and chance creation despite his wait for a first goal, and he's also an option on the wing.
Emery's midweek selection introduced several genuine choices. Barkley, Mbaye and Pau Torres started against Fenerbahçe, while João Gomes, Buendía and Mings were among the substitutes. Goretzka also came on, adding another midfield option.
Barkley's two goals strengthen his case, but Gomes offers a plausible return beside Kamara when the task includes containing Newcastle's runners. Keeping Mbaye would retain a wide attacking option, with Manzambi operating centrally behind Jackson and McGinn narrowing from the other flank.
The projected selection below retains Pau Torres and Mbaye while restoring Gomes. It is a balance between Wednesday's successful combinations and the demands of an away league game, with Buendía and Barkley credible alternatives.

Newcastle are projected to line up in a 4-2-3-1, with Dedić returning at right back and Miley moving into midfield. Fitness updates on Burn, Joelinton and Osula's readiness to start could change the picture, while Bazoumana Touré is a live option to start ahead of Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle United vs Aston Villa key matchup factors
Can Newcastle press Villa without leaving Manzambi free?
Brentford's opening goal last weekend followed Mings losing possession under pressure. Newcastle have a clear reason to test Villa's first pass, with Wissa supporting the striker and the wide players ready to close down.
The risk begins when that first pressure is beaten. If González or Miley steps forward without cover, Manzambi can receive behind them and turn toward the center backs. Newcastle need the back line and midfield to move together; an isolated chase creates the opening Villa want.
Will Newcastle clear the danger before committing forward?
The practical priority is completing defensive actions. Winning the first header is insufficient if Villa collect the loose ball. Jackson and the supporting attackers give Newcastle good reason to keep a midfielder close to the area until possession is secure.
Can Dedić and Murphy or Touré stretch Villa's makeshift left side?
Wan-Bissaka brings considerable defensive experience, so his deployment on the left does not automatically create a weakness. The opportunity is to test how well the players around him share responsibility.
If Dedić overlaps Murphy or Touré, Villa's left-sided attacker has a decision: follow the run or remain available for the counter. Newcastle can use that movement to create crossing space, but Miley must then cover the channel Dedić leaves. Extra width carries a defensive obligation.
How much of Wednesday's attacking rhythm can Villa retain?
The selection question is where to make room for fresh legs. Restoring Gomes can reinforce midfield, but it removes Barkley's forward passing and shooting from that position. Newcastle face different problems depending on which function Emery prioritizes.
What could move Newcastle United vs Aston Villa odds before kickoff?
Newcastle's selection will reveal whether Jaissle prioritizes midfield protection, keeps his existing attacking combination or introduces Osula at striker. Dedić's readiness for a start and Touré's fitness could also change the available wide options.
For Villa, the balance between Barkley and Gomes, Mbaye and Buendía, and the center-back choices will indicate how much Emery adjusts after Wednesday.
Any late fitness problem would carry extra weight with such a short recovery period. The confirmed XIs should clarify how much attacking freedom each team is prepared to allow.
