Prediction markets make Newcastle 45% favorites, but their injuries and Coventry's compact win over Forest keep this well short of mismatch territory.

Newcastle entered the international break with a win over Hull, taking eight points from their first five matches.
Coventry finally found a response to a difficult start by beating Nottingham Forest 1-0, their first league goal and first points of the season.
That does not erase Coventry's earlier attacking problems, but it gives Frank Lampard a workable template: defend the box, compete for second balls and use the wingbacks to escape pressure.
Newcastle have more attacking depth, although an unusually long injury list has forced Matthias Jaissle to improvise in several positions.
The Magpies will hope the extended international break sees the return of some key players.

Newcastle's edge rests on the stronger start and a front line that can attack in several ways.
Harvey Barnes supplied both assists in the 2-1 win over Hull, Lewis Hall added width from left back and Joe Willock's movement from midfield helped break the first line. Those mechanisms matter against a Coventry block likely to protect the center.
But 45% is restrained favoritism. Newcastle allowed Hull to build late pressure and are monitoring several defenders and midfielders.
Coventry's 29% sits almost level with the draw, suggesting the market gives their home advantage and recent defensive improvement real weight rather than treating the Forest win as noise.
The largest uncertainty is Newcastle's availability. Tino Livramento, Amar Dedić, Anthony Elanga and William Osula all require updates, among others.
Osula is a genuine current-hierarchy question rather than automatic bench depth: if his foot problem clears, his pace and central running could see him return to the starting XI.
Coventry vs Newcastle odds
Newcastle win — 45%
Draw — 27%
Coventry win — 29%
Newcastle have the clearest edge of the three outcomes, but the home win and draw are effectively paired. Coventry's more plausible positive routes are closely related: keep the game compressed, deny Newcastle an early breakthrough and turn set pieces or wide recoveries into the decisive chances.
The market therefore recognizes Newcastle's superior attacking options without overlooking the effect of their selection problems. How many first-choice players return will determine whether that 16-point gap feels secure or vulnerable.
Coventry team news
Lampard used a 3-4-2-1 against Forest, with Jack Rudoni and Ephron Mason-Clark supporting Brandon Thomas-Asante. The shape gave Coventry five defenders when they dropped deep and still left two players close enough to the striker to contest clearances.
Milan van Ewijk, Haji Wright, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Luke Woolfenden and Aurèle Amenda have all been dealing with injuries. Their absences have elevated Caleb Yirenkyi at right wingback and brought Ethan Pinnock into the back three.
After a first clean sheet, continuity is more likely than a return to the names used earlier in the season.
The main attacking choice is whether Thomas-Asante remains the focal point or Coventry alter the forward line if Wright becomes available. Thomas-Asante's pressing and willingness to run the channels fit the Forest template, so fitness alone would not settle that decision.
Newcastle team news
Jaissle has generally preferred a 4-2-3-1. Injuries forced Lewis Miley to start at right back against Hull, with Sean Steur and Willock in midfield and Matias Fernandez-Pardo operating behind Wissa. Barnes and Jacob Murphy supplied the width.
Livramento withdrew from England duty, while Dedić, Elanga, Dan Burn, Osula and others have needed treatment. Fresh assessments will be important.
Osula's status deserves particular attention. His late-season form last year and place in the current attacking hierarchy mean he has a strong starting case when fit.
Can Coventry's back five protect the width of the penalty area?
Coventry defended narrow spaces well against Forest, but Barnes and Hall can combine outside the block before attacking the far post. Yirenkyi and Dasilva must prevent crosses without leaving Rudoni and Mason-Clark too deep to support transitions.
Who leads Newcastle's line?
Osula's injury has kept a genuine first-choice contender out since the season opener. If Osula is cleared, his speed against Coventry's back three would make the striker decision one of Jaissle's most consequential calls.
Can Jack Rudoni find space behind Newcastle's midfield?
Newcastle's reshuffled double pivot can move the ball, but Hull found room once Steur came off and the midfield line was stretched. Nico González's return should add more composure here.
Rudoni is the Coventry player best equipped to receive in that gap and release runners before Newcastle recover their shape.
Do Newcastle's fullback injuries weaken their rest defense?
Miley has adapted well at right back, but his natural instinct is to join midfield. Coventry can target the space outside Thiaw if Miley advances, particularly through Mason-Clark and the left wingback. The risk becomes greater if Newcastle commit Hall forward at the same time.
What could move Coventry vs Newcastle odds before kickoff?
Newcastle's medical updates are the central variables, especially those involving Osula, Livramento, Dedić, Joelinton and Elanga.
Coventry will monitor Wright and Van Ewijk, whose returns would create genuine attacking and wingback decisions.
