The New England Patriots are 76% favorites against the New York Jets, but injuries around Drake Maye give the visitors' resurgent pass rush an opening.

The New England Patriots have changed the mood of their season in two weeks. Sunday's 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders followed a victory in Buffalo, lifting them to 3-2 after an uneven start.
Drake Maye drove the latest performance with 374 passing yards and five total touchdowns. He did it with several important teammates missing, then watched more injuries arrive during the game.
The New York Jets also found relief on Sunday, beating the Cleveland Browns 17-12 to improve to 2-3. Their defense produced eight sacks, and Braelon Allen supplied the decisive late touchdown. Now the Jets have to carry that defensive pressure into a much tougher quarterback matchup.

Maye's recent passing gives New England the greater offensive upside. The Patriots showed against Las Vegas that they could still attack downfield with replacement receivers, making it difficult for the Jets to rely on merely limiting the run and waiting for an error.
The visitors can challenge that advantage at the line of scrimmage. David Bailey's breakout against Cleveland and New England's offensive-line injuries create a concrete opportunity to hurry Maye before those downfield routes open.
The Jets still need their own offense to make enough of those stops. Geno Smith has protected the ball well in the passing game, but the attack cannot repeatedly stall and ask the defense to hold Maye off indefinitely. New England has the stronger position; its growing injury list is the clearest reason this may prove harder than Sunday's result suggests.
New York Jets vs New England Patriots odds
New York Jets win: 25%
New England Patriots win: 76%
The Patriots are clear favorites, reflecting their recent offensive improvement. The Jets' pressure offers a credible counter, but its effectiveness depends on disrupting Maye without giving his receivers easy opportunities behind the rush.
New York Jets vs New England Patriots game outlook
The Jets need pressure and coverage to work together. Bailey's Cleveland performance included both a coordinated rush and a heavier pressure call, rather than one repeated way of getting to the quarterback. Mixing those approaches could test New England's replacements without making every passing down predictable.
Sending extra rushers carries a cost. Maye punished the Raiders downfield when they left receivers in favorable individual matchups. The Jets have to decide when pressure is worth leaving less help behind it, and when they can make the quarterback hold the ball through coverage instead.
New England can answer with quicker completions, extra protection or throws that move Maye away from immediate pressure. Each choice changes the jobs of the backs, tight ends and receivers; our guide to NFL positions explains how those roles fit together.
The Jets' offense has a different opportunity. Garrett Wilson can test a Patriots secondary that was missing its top two cornerbacks on Sunday, while Allen gives Smith a way to avoid carrying every drive himself. Sustaining possession would let the visitors rest their rushers and reduce the number of chances Maye gets to attack.
Team news and injury report
New York Jets
Tight end Kenyon Sadiq was ruled out of the Browns game with a concussion. His progress through the concussion protocol will determine whether he is available against New England.
Breece Hall, Adonai Mitchell and Dylan Parham were among Sunday's inactive players. Their absence against Cleveland does not establish their status for Week 6. Allen's productive rushing gives the Jets an option if Hall remains unavailable, while Tim Patrick made his debut after returning from injured reserve.
New England Patriots
The Patriots played Sunday without receivers A.J. Brown and Mack Hollins and right guard Mike Onwenu, all on injured reserve. Cornerbacks Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis also missed the game.
Left tackle Will Campbell left with a knee injury, and running back TreVeyon Henderson departed with an ankle injury. As of October 12, their Week 6 availability remains unresolved. Caleb Lomu and Ben Brown were among the offensive-line replacements used against Las Vegas, making the protection personnel especially important against the Jets.
Key factors that could decide New York Jets vs New England Patriots
Can Bailey reach Maye without leaving the secondary exposed?
The Jets' rookie showed he could benefit from interior pressure as well as win off the edge. Reproducing that coordinated rush would let the defense challenge protection while keeping more players in coverage. Maye's mobility means the rush also has to control his escape lanes.
Can the Jets take away the deep throws that hurt Las Vegas?
Keeping safety help over the top would ask Maye to build drives through shorter completions. That may be preferable to leaving receivers isolated downfield, but it puts more responsibility on the defenders underneath to tackle and prevent routine catches from becoming substantial gains.
Can Allen and Wilson keep the Jets' offense on the field?
Allen rushed for 116 yards against Cleveland, while Wilson finished with 104 receiving yards. Their production provides two ways to support Smith, although the Jets still needed a late short field to win. Against New England, drives that cross midfield need to become scoring opportunities more consistently.
What could move New York Jets vs New England Patriots odds?
Campbell's knee and Henderson's ankle could alter New England's protection and backfield options. The availability of Gonzalez and Davis would also change how confidently the Patriots can cover Wilson.
For the Jets, Sadiq's concussion progress and the status of Hall, Mitchell and Parham could affect the range of personnel available to the offense. Significant wind or rain would also be relevant if the forecast indicates it could limit the passing game.
