Market data as of August 28, 2026.
Prediction markets make Green Bay the narrowest of favorites. The Packers’ reserve units produced a cleaner all-around performance in their 33-13 win over Denver, but Arizona’s expected Gardner Minshew II–Kedon Slovis quarterback combination gives the Cardinals enough experience to keep the matchup close.
Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers prediction and match outlook
This game is a comparison of expected usage rather than regular-season roster strength. Arizona coach Mike LaFleur has confirmed that his starters will sit, while most of Green Bay’s starters are also expected to be held out after receiving extended work during Wednesday’s joint practice.
Green Bay’s case for a slight edge begins with the operation of its second and third units against Denver. Tyrod Taylor threw a short touchdown pass, Kyle McCord completed 12 of 19 attempts for 118 yards and the Packers protected the football. Green Bay also produced points through its return and kicking units, allowing it to control the game without asking its reserve offense to manufacture long scoring drives repeatedly.
That performance does not make Green Bay a clear favorite. Taylor is the established backup to Jordan Love, but the distribution of snaps between Taylor, McCord and possible late-game option Kyron Drones has not been formally established. The longer the game is placed in the hands of inexperienced quarterbacks and changing offensive-line combinations, the less predictive the Packers’ win over Denver becomes.
Arizona presents the opposite tension. Its reserve units were uneven in a 34-13 loss to Dallas, conceding explosive plays and committing penalties that erased touchdowns. Minshew nevertheless completed 19 of 23 passes for 177 yards and directed a touchdown drive. His interception came after a receiver slipped, rather than from an obviously reckless decision.
With rookie Carson Beck still sidelined by sore ribs, Minshew and Slovis are expected to divide the quarterback work again. Minshew’s experience should help Arizona handle protection calls and stay functional on third down, but the Cardinals need a better performance from their reserve offensive line and secondary than they produced against Dallas.
The likeliest pattern is a relatively controlled opening while Taylor and Minshew are involved, followed by greater volatility as younger quarterbacks, backup linemen and roster-bubble defenders take over. Green Bay’s recent depth performance supports its narrow market position, but Arizona has a credible route through Minshew’s efficiency and a cleaner defensive showing.
Team news and injuries
Arizona Cardinals
Arizona’s regular-season starters will not play. Jacoby Brissett is established as the starting quarterback, leaving Minshew and Slovis as the expected preseason-finale combination.
Beck is unlikely to be available after missing practice time with sore ribs. His absence removes the rookie from a game that otherwise would have offered valuable developmental snaps and leaves Arizona with less flexibility in distributing the quarterback workload.
The Cardinals have also lost depth across several positions. Offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, running back Trey Benson and wide receiver Xavier Weaver are on Injured Reserve. Benson reverted to Arizona’s reserve list after clearing waivers and is out for the season.
Arizona’s secondary was hit particularly hard against Dallas. Safety Rabbit Taylor-Demerson sustained a rib injury, while safety Wydett Williams Jr. and cornerback Kalen King entered concussion protocols. The Cardinals subsequently signed safeties Devyn Bobby and Hudson Clark, but late additions can face communication challenges when asked to handle extended preseason snaps.
Punter Blake Gillikin will not play after suffering a groin injury. Any resulting change at punter or holder could affect field position and special-teams execution.
Green Bay Packers
Most of Green Bay’s regular-season starters are expected to sit after their joint-practice workload. Jordan Love should therefore give way to Taylor, McCord and potentially Drones.
Taylor is the confirmed No. 2 quarterback, but McCord may receive the most consequential evaluation period. He has completed 24 of 35 passes for 220 yards across Green Bay’s first two preseason games and has generally kept the offense on schedule. Drones’ mobility offers a different late-game element if he receives snaps, although his protection and passing-game operation remain less proven.
Tight end Tucker Kraft returned to full contact during the joint practice following last season’s ACL injury but is unlikely to play. Green Bay should instead continue evaluating its depth at tight end and receiver, where Will Sheppard and Isaiah Neyor combined for nine catches and 94 yards against Denver.
The Packers also received positive availability news in the secondary when Javon Bullard resumed individual work and Benjamin St-Juste returned from a hamstring issue. With the primary defenders likely to be protected, however, the larger game-specific question is how Green Bay’s younger defensive backs handle Arizona’s experienced reserve quarterback.
Key factors that could decide Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers
Can Gardner Minshew keep Arizona ahead of the chains?
Minshew’s ability to identify pressure and deliver the ball quickly gives Arizona a stabilizing presence while he is on the field. His accuracy against Dallas showed that the Cardinals can sustain possessions with their reserves, but penalties and protection breakdowns repeatedly undermined that efficiency. Arizona needs manageable third downs to prevent Green Bay’s pass rush from attacking obvious dropback situations.
Can Green Bay protect Kyle McCord after Tyrod Taylor exits?
McCord has been productive when given time, particularly on play action and intermediate throws. The risk comes from reserve-line communication after Green Bay begins rotating blockers. Arizona edge rusher Eku Leota recorded a sack and five tackles against Dallas and is competing for a roster place, making his matchup with Green Bay’s backup tackles one of the more meaningful individual contests.
Which reserve secondary limits explosive plays?
Arizona allowed a 53-yard touchdown and a 70-yard catch-and-run against Dallas, with coverage errors turning manageable situations into immediate scoring opportunities. Green Bay’s young defensive backs have generated interceptions during camp and the joint practice, but Minshew’s experience will test their discipline. The defense that keeps short completions from becoming long gains should give its offense the better field-position game.
Does special teams tilt a close game?
Green Bay kicker Trey Smack converted all four field-goal attempts against Denver, including kicks from 51 and 59 yards, while Pierre Strong Jr. produced a 68-yard kickoff return. Arizona enters the game without Gillikin and with its replacement punting arrangement unresolved. In a matchup priced this closely, one long return or mishandled specialist sequence could be decisive.
Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers head-to-head
Green Bay won the teams’ most recent regular-season meeting 27-23 in Arizona on October 19, 2025. That result carries limited predictive weight here: Arizona has since changed its head coach and starting quarterback, while the players who decide this preseason finale will largely come from the reserve units.
What could move Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers odds before kickoff?
The most important variable is the final quarterback workload. A plan giving Taylor extended action would strengthen Green Bay’s veteran-quarterback advantage, while a McCord-heavy rotation would place greater weight on protection and the performance of the Packers’ younger receivers. Arizona’s split between Minshew and Slovis carries similar importance.
Late confirmation concerning Arizona’s injured defensive backs and replacement punter could also change the depth comparison. Any additional offensive-line absence would be material because both teams are expected to spend most of the game using reserve quarterbacks behind changing protection units.
